Vodophone made me wait on hold for 33 minutes before I managed to speak to someone. With Telescum it was 2 1/4 hours.

only on prepay, I would imagine most here are dealing with contract, or proposals for coverage of a multitude of services.

Having dealt with both sides, and having to advise clients... which service are you talking about?

Phones: Vodafone's are better, we all know that as simply put, most manufacturers now make for sim phones. This will all change mid year, when Telecom's new comparable-to-vodafone network goes live... we'll see what Telecom offers in the way of phones.

Coverage: Rurally, Telecom wins, however, in some areas, Vodafone does beat Telecom. On the whole, Telecom has best country wide coverage. This is even more obvious with data services (don't even get me started on Vodafone's claims, even in their best areas). Both seem to have odd issues with both sides not able to hear the other etc, also reception depends on the phone you're using.

Support/Billing/Services via phone: Vodafone is pathetic. Two months of trying to bring two sims under one entity so it could all be charged to one credit card via a Variable Credit Card payment resulted in epic failure. Promises to do things when I rang never fulfilled. You know when you ring up, it won't be sorted, but if you don't ring, it won't be sorted either. Telecom. They used to be pathetic, but the public criticising them etc, and they seem to have pulled thumb. When you ring, even if you have to jump a few hoops/people, you will eventually reach someone that should be able to sort out the problem (at least in my experience). Minor things within the box seem to be done quickly and easily. Telecom wins here... but simply because it isn't as bad. I don't know what Vodafone thinks it is doing with their billing side, but it seems to be completely shite, with random restrictions, often offline, and they neglected to let people know that during the big upgrade, all accounts were effectively locked. Not quite what they said in their little letter.

Technicians: This is probably more the data side, probably not relevant, and Chorus not "Telecom", but varies from person to person. Bit of a classic for the wrong sort of technician to be sent out, who knows nothing about the problem at hand.

I'm not biased to one or the other now, and deal with both side by side, so have a reasonably good platform to compare both. I'm on Vodafone (or at least, the company phone is vodafone) with data etc on the plan as well because Telecom phones are useless compared to the smartphones like HTC and Nokia, so Telecom isn't close to being an option.

Sorry perhaps I need to qualify Telstra are reselling telecom, I have one and have had several discussions with them about the poor quality of the phone vs what they advertise its is worth and telecoms price vs theirs for the same phone to be told well telecom tells us that is what the phone is worth we are just reselling their services and network. When you first setup your voice mail it refers to it being telecom.
