Comments please - Zapf's travel plan in the mainland

My travel PLAN <-- click on this...

As its my 1st time on the mainland can those of you who live / experienced on the mainland please point out if I am missing anything (spending too much time / too little time at certian places) or going about things the wrong way?

Any points on what i should not miss along the way?

If you can help with bedding along the route that would be great as well. (am well mannered and toilet trained 26y old)

Thanks for ur comment/ time in adv....

I'm guessing you are refering to the South Island eh?

PM me with plans and I will let you know where you can stay when you're in the 'deep south'

If you do the thing in a "figure 8" you can do all the major passes: Arthur's and Lewis also the lesser Lindus and Haast. Which would mean you go to the West Coast on the way to Christchurch.

The Buller George is nice (if there aren't too many camper vans) and I haven't seen it yet but the Catlins Road between Dunedin and Invercargill seems to be rated.

If you like windy roads, include a trip over the Takaka Hill to Golden Bay and back. (The Bay is boring but the hill isn't :-)

The roads in the South Island tend to be better than those in the North as I recall but watch out for unannounced roadworks.

Start with new tyres as the chip they use is courser than ours (good traction but higher wear) and you'll found that you will have done over 3000+++Km.

I reckon drop down to invercargill / bluff between your te anau / dunnos visits. Pretty cool town that you'd never otherwise get to. A shitload of cool (cage-free) roads, plus you can take one of them photos of the big city mega sign thing, the one that has Honolulu 15gazillion km's etc.
Also the undisputed best cafe in the world is zookeepers cafe @ invercargill
    Because I can...

That's cool that you're in Wgtn on the 26th - you can meet up with the gang that's going to Tulsi etc.... I won't be there to say "have a good trip!" So, "have a good trip!" Wish I was hooning around the South Island too!

    Just minor details

I just searched 'route' in software on Trademe and got nothing. What do you use for route planning :spudwhat: A google found Quickmap Route Finder - South Island, and one for NI. Is that what most peeps use?
