If they can block off the Southern MW

... for the various money collecting events (Ulysses Helicopter run comes to mind), why can't they also block it off for high speed antics - of an organised kind of course!

Imagine it, Karaka to the shore flat out... 100's of bikes. I'd pay my $10 to do it (same fee as the rescue helicopter) and the chopper crew might even get to have some practice while the event is on (hopefully not of course).

It'd be less inconvenient to the public too - the whole thing should be over in about 5 minutes!

... just my 5c... as you were!

Yawn. If I was able to close of any stretch of road in New Zealand for my riding pleasure, it sure as hell wouldn't be the Auckland motorway. Something with a few decent twisties and some ups and downs would be more my preference. Imagine the Rimutakas or the Takaka Hill with no vehicles coming the other way. Now that is more like motorcycle heaven to me...

I agree with Hitcher. Only "driven" the Takas once but on a bike I bet they would be fun

And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

I'm not disagreeing with you... in fact I welcome nominations for roads we might want to commandeer for a bit. The Southern came to mind simply because I had this mental picture of 1500 bikes roaring up there (as per the Ulysses thingy the other week).

An interesting road might be more fun, but not with that many bikes.

    Other nominations?

Yeah, the roads I take to work and home every day. Only want 'em closed for 5 minutes at 8:20am and 6pm.

they actually did something like this down in tauranga, by closing off route PKJ for 'max speed runs' - really good event for the community.
My old man got to run his 955 in it, got a 242kph (which was pretty good as Tony Ree's only got 267kph!! - the fastest speed for the day)
they invited me to run my Rg the following year - but the event was cancelled.
Similar problems as springs speedway - stuck up wankers
