    * The sense of community in local neighbourhood;

    * Feeling of trust;

    * Availability of support;

    * Frequency of feeling lonely or isolated;

    * Contact with neighbours;

    * Culturally rich and diverse arts scene;

    * Sense of pride in the way their city looks and feels;

    * Rating of graffiti, vandalism and litter as a problem;
    Well duh. If you're going by those points.
    My criteria would be a lot different.

    Yep. This is just another example of a worthless study.
    I could create a study called "The most awesome place in NZ" and the only criteria is which place has the most tacos. Because tacos are awesome.

    They could have at least done a survey as to what people think is most important about the place they live in.
    The
    Best weather?
    Hottest wimminz?
    Best paying jobs?

    Auckland, the most highly populated part of the country is at the bottom of the list, how does that work? Nobody would live there if it sucked. (It doesn't suck, I love it.)

    Rodney is awesome though.

    Actually I think you are wrong .. .a lot of people live in places they think suck because that is what they have to do to survive ... that is why places like auckland and wellington are populated at all ... people are here due to work etc.

    What a dopey survey. 44% of the population not even included. The survey did not cover every city in the country. "Meaningless" comes to mind.
