    Never easy to say goodbye...

When you do not have children your pets become your children.

For those of you who are pet owners you will understand when I tell you that is it with a heavy heart full of great sadness and sorrow that I had to put my boxer Sasha to sleep today. She was diagnosed with Lymphoma and had been on prednisone for the past month, but this morning she woke up and her head was twice the size and she was having trouble breathing a sign of fluid building up in her tissues, she was cleary suffering, mother nature lets you know it is time to take back one of her own. She was a great dog, like any boxer, she was a clown and like any female she loved to talk back and give attitude. I thanked her for sharing her life with us and giving us such happiness in her almost 11 years of life with us and gave her permission to go and join her brother (who we lost last September) in doggy heaven.

Sasha you were truly loved and will be missed greatly!! Thank you!

I'm so sorry to hear this. i had a yorkshire terrior that got a very rear skin cancer i spent thousand on cemo. In the end i had to ask myself who was i doing this for and had to put him to sleep. This happened about a year and half ago i still cry it was the hardest thing i have ever had to do. I have 4 other dogs and i hope like hell i never have to do it again.

My heart goes out to you. Take care

    Never easy aye
I had told myself years ago, that i wouldn't have another dog, but fate handed me the best dog i've ever had the pleasure of being in the company of ! Shepherd Husky cross, 2 yr old now and know she won't make old age due to bad hips !
It may seem weird to some folk but i'd sooner give the time o day to an animal than most human folk i meet !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

Even when you do have children, your pets become an extension of your family and are oft likened to the next child.

I feel for your loss BB - I am dreading being put in the same situation on making the call to end any suffering for my two.

As you say, she is now in doggy heaven and at peace now.

Sad news babe, Children or not the bond of people to pets should never be underestimated. Sadly I've often been in situations where people have lost their furry friends suddenly (accidents and fires) and it's a heart wrenching thing to witness.

I well remember the effect the loss of a budgerigar had on one elderly lady, a trivial event to many onlookers but quite literally the end of the world to this old dear.

I only mention this in the hope that you will understand that a lot of people out here can genuinely relate to your loss. It's a very real and painful thing and you have my sincere sympathy.

    Sasha isn't suffering anymore.

Sad news - feel for ya... We have had 2 dogs, both for a long long time and it's not easy being a responsible friend to them at the end eh?

Take it easy... Thinking of you!

Honey I am so sorry you had to do the cruel to be kind thing with your baby girl.

I understand completely - pets are special members of the family - especially doggies.

You have done the right thing, Brownbabe. Sometimes our judgement about what's best for our "babies" can get skewed when we're wrought with emotion.

You may feel in despair but at least you can be comforted knowing that you looked after Sasha's best interests right to the end. Kudos for putting her needs first.
