I'll be thinking of you all on Friday night while I'm driving the 'work' car and watching the late leavers heading north on their bikes. :disapint:

    1st home

The oll Canty nor wester aye guys, that return ride home was more a work out than a ride. never had to ride in a straight line with my ass of the seat before, at on stage I held it a 6k on the taco in 3rd leaning as hard as I cold in attempt to stay on my side of the rd.

The rally, wicked as usual rode down with Manu, SuzyQ & Hubby plus another mate.
Meet Gav & missus and a couple more mates that left in the arvo to get there few beers, bands etc all the usuall shit, execlent time.

check out a few pics. best trike I've seen yet too, tho not sure if its more car or bike, Toyota V8
Other pics are the camp site in which you can see Manu's, Gav's SuzyQ's and my bikes.

Man, that wind on the way home was soooo bad, starting to get a bit scary, real danger of being blown into oncoming traffic. I passed a car once and bike just would not budge to swing back onto side of road after passing the car, took like 3 attempts and on the 3rd attempt just muscled the whole bike by realy forcing the bars to steer 45 degrees into the wind, it was so strong. Never had to work so hard to ride in a straight line, just concentrating and trying to read where the next wind gust was going to hit ya. The less fairings you had the better, the two Mikes didnt seem to badly affected on their bikes.
Anyway left on Saturday about 1 o'clock and eventually met up with a couple of bikes, one a STX1300 the otehr a FJ1100 with a side chair. No real dramas until pulling into Timaru for gas, my CBR just died as I coasted in, didnt think much of it, but wouldnt start on starter button, hmm WTF, guys gave me a push and fired OK, decided I'd carry on to rally and might need push start in the morning. Left with the guy on the FJ following, he eventually went past and we carried on at about 140-160km/h with him putting on a spectacular display of 3 wheel action Got to rally site and no probs and lo and behold bike started on start button, no worries (and has been OK for the rest of the weekend) Anyway cruised around camp site looking for the Chch KB site, hmmm Dangerous, red VTR1000, fark, theirs alot of them around....eventually found a familiar group of bikes (busa, SVthou, GSXF750 etc) and pitched tent. Man, it was hot, Nor Wester blowing and about 28 degrees. Pitched up for a free BBQ sausage or two and cruised around checking out bikes and sites etc. First time I'd been to this site and certainly is pretty big, bit concerned at all the cars parked up as we entered the rally but overall no worries. Band(s) were OK and got better as the night went on, they played through to about 4 in the morning thanks for that fellas. The wet tee shirt comp was bit of a balls up as this druken psycho bitch from hell took central stage and managed to mouth obscenities for about half an hour or so. Left about 9ish (?) for breakfast at maccas in Timaru and then tacked our way home, got home about 12! All in all, a pretty good rally, good to meet a few new faces too.

    yeah Gav

The Mikes were on a 800 shadow which dosent seem to be bothered by the wind a hell of a lot, and the other Mike was on his streached 82 GPZ1135inj wanabe dragster... which is that bloody long I think the frount wheel was home before the rear wheel left Timaru.
As we meet Gav at the rally site we had gone a different way..... the long way, Chch to Darfield, Mayfield..... apart from suzyQ and hubby which for some reason thought they were off to the Horarata Hog out rally, but managed to catch us up at Mayfield.... thinking about it I think I may have mentioned Horarata opps...... anyway, in to Geraldine then the climb up over to Fairley for a pub toasty and beer.
Onwards to Cave still with out much traffic..... why would ya want to take the main rd? were we turned of the main drag and down some back country rd's, were the speed creaped up a tad..... but not for long.
This brought us out on St h/w1 for about 15min and then into the rally site.
And you know already about the trip home

Ps: I never saw any other KBer's down there, where were ya's all hiding (a mate did say he saw a GS1200ss with a KB sticker on it)
    cheers DD

4 bikes left Te Anau, met 4 more from Riversdale. Coffee break at Cromwell, lunch at Omarama Pub ( great food there ) Forks Pub, breathtesting between Wiamate and rally so went round the long way, great rally, beautiful sunrise at 6am, left rally about 8.30 . Did you guys see where a bike had left a big skiddy at the first corner and off into grass. Rode thru to Cave ( magic ) winds got stronger after Fairlie, Glen on the old Gold Wing was really struggleing , the heritage was ok , breakfast at Tekapo, finally got wind up the ars , we were going to have lunch at Mt Cook but flagged that, could have gone surfing on the lake, snooze at Omarama, coffee at Tarras, raining Queenstown , watched start of grand pree at Kellys Bar and the rain finally stoped. Home about 5.30 and Fucked. Cheers Toddy

Saw bike after bike heading for home past my place in the early afternoon, the early ones would have had an o.k. ride but the later ones were heading into rain a few km down the track towards Gore.

Still pissed me off to miss the March but never mind, just put in to get the "Off the Rails Rally" weekend off so fingers crossed.

That would have been me. Yes I was sorry to have missed the other KBers there also. Guess the message is "wear the Tshirt" (maybe I shold get one too).

I had a great time. Met up with 1500Phil in Hornby on Friday and got to the rally at 6:30pm. With regrets went home Saturday pm, but at least avoided the worest of the NW. Good to hear you got back OK.
