Not really. Cyclespot Honda have a new 08 model for $19500. Will BMW get involved in the seasonal price slashing the Japanese brands are famous for and offer similar bargains?

Another factor that may factor in the buying decision is the general lack of BMW dealers in NZ. Will there be adequate back-up or will we end up with a similar situation that has occurred with Aprilia [and highlighted by the appalling treatment that Hitcher recently received].

Being a new model from a product line BMW has not participated in before adds further risk; anyone buying the first generation S1000R will not only be taking a potential risk on the quality of the bike, but are also likely to be guinea pigs for the dealers.

Personally I believe the bike will make many friends and be a resounding success. BMW make motor vehicles second to no one; odds are their new sport bike will be the start of a great new line of motorcycles.

While the non-ABS bikes may be pretty much physically identical, the pricing between an 08 and 09 bike is not. Add ABS to go some way to matching the fruit on the BMW and you are looking around the $27k mark, if you are lucky
