If it is seriously messy a spray of degreaser first will help.
Once the crap is off its labour time with the usual products - polish/wax for paint work & alloy, Autosol (or similar) for chrome, and a silicone spray or similar (armorall) for plastics, cables etc.
Nothing on the brakes - including degreaser.
I use a waterblaster regularly on mine and have never had any probs, but, as AllanB says, take care around electrics and intakes.
Don't use Armorall on the seat or the tyres. Makes things very slippery!
