    Update - first practice 5/3/05

Well todays practice was delayed til 12pm due to work still being done on the track. Unfortunately these delays meant that the bikes were the first to scrub in the new tarseal! I'll let the riders update everyone on how they feel about the track - I went round it a few times in the ute and can see potential for trouble in a few areas. There are a few new bumps too - one noticeable one on the front straight that lifts the rear wheel on all bikes about 10cm, and causes a few wobbles leading into the first corner. The track is also very dusty - it should get a good sweeping tonight, but an overnight downpour wouldn't go amiss.
There was only one accident today - fortunately only minor injury to the rider, but his GSXR-600 is fucked! Bike did several somersaults after rider braked on the front straight.
Good to watch Motoracer out there today, and to catch up with Lynda Blair, Hamish and 750Y.
I won't be working at the track tomorrow, but I will be there - you can't keep me away when there's lots of bikes around. I'll be flitting about the place taking photos, generally getting in the way (and hopefully not being conned into being a marshall), and possibly doing a spot of umbrella girl duties for MR if he can find an umbrella !!! I don't have to wear a short skirt do I?

Crikey we don't want to scare everyone away, do we? Altho it would give MR the advantage if he was the only one on the track...

    Saturday 5/3/05 update

Yesterday I happened to whisper something about a special birthday to the organisers, so this morning MR was presented with a cake at the riders briefing (see pic).
I spent the day skulking around the track taking photos, and most of them have turned out ok. I have a couple of MR and TS on the hairpin below - still sorting through the rest.
MR started really well in his first race and was making really good progress - I think he was doing 1.05s, and then his chain broke. So tonight he will be burning the midnight oil to repair his bike so he can race tomorrow.
TS managed to get round the track without any mishaps - I'm not sure of his times tho.
All in all a very good day with some great racing.

I won't be there tomorrow due to the in-laws competing in the 4x4 enduros at Helensville tomorrow, a rash promise I made, and consequent unavoidable stuff I must do. Woe is me.

    Bah, bah and double-bah.

    BAH.

    Oh well.
