Lesson to be learn't from this. If you need a tyre fitted take the wheel off and at home and then get them to fit the tyre. No body loves your bike as much as you do. Especially stoners at treads.

    Not so easy for me.

The friends very Anal bout his bike done 6000ks in 4years, no one else but him has ridden it. Always well looked after.
Then your friend should burst into tears and get it out of his system - and be happy the bike shop fixed the damage done.

The first problem it seems is what would be or not be acceptable as far as repair quality was not discussed beforehand.
It is simple if the fairing was not cracked before even if it was a $1000 bike and a replacement fairing panel was $500,that would be to bad for the person who damaged it.
Shit does happen but it is a two way street.
In that case it would come back to what is acceptable to the owner,if the shop in this case is not prepared to show some integrity you have a problem.

If the owner is not happy with the repair standard, take the bike back and point the problems out.
If they will not meet their responsibly take them to court, having their name posted on the internet will do them no favours all the same.

If things are truly as posted here you are well within your rights to have things put back to how they were, that being all including scratched only unless agreed to by both parties.

It seems they took the cheap option at the owners expense because they do not give a shit or think he will go away.

there have been 4 bikes in history dropped at cycletreads, if you consider the amount of work those guys do, and the amount or bikes worked on, 4 in 1000's and 1000's aint bad. humans make mistakes. im sure they will fix it to a great standard. hey anthrax, i think your parents made a mistake one night in the past.......you . be fair to the boys at treads, they do a great job.

Nobody is complaining about the rate of bikes being dropped - they're stating what was done about it when it did happen in this case. Clearly the repair is sub-standard. Instead of coming on here attempting to defend the indefensible, why not get the fuck on with contacting the guy and setting it right?

I look forward to the OP reporting that this has been done. But I won't hold my breath.
