frig me... i was also in the ATC... in Oamaru....

but i will alway remember bucket racing there... especial when two of my faster racers, over took me ( rear thing back in the day... tui add there..)
one on the left and one on the right... both gave me HEAPS of room... they were neck and neck.. all be it about 20m apart.... going into a hair pin.... these two took the same line.....
yep they crashed into each other hahahahah

i over took them , waving... trying to stay on the bike from laughing so much.....

My mother served at Wigram back in the day in the 'Womans Air Force' before women were properly integrated into the RNZAF. We visited there in 2001, the DC3 there is the airframe my dad learnt his trade of Aircraft Tech on in the 1970's. My mum was quite upset, seeing all the barracks and other typical air force styled buildings gone, so she's not too happy now that there will be no aviation there at all anymore.

I think it would only be polite to return it to them in the swampy manner we found it all those years ago. That's the ethical thing to do when you borrow something isn't it?

Did they have a Catalina there today? I'm sure one flew over our place at about 6pm.

Never been ATC etc but a part time plane nut. Agree that it is a sad day. Obviously don't know what I'm talking about but I watched the P51 do tail stalls and other "manoeuvres" for about 30 mins from home on last Thursday night (over Avonhead way). Love the sound of the Merlin and Griffon.

    Cheers R

I went and had a look at my old Papakura camp while up that way this weekend and sad to say the old place is now an overgrown dump. Its actually not a nice feeling seeing an old stomping ground in that kind of state.

Few sounds wobble the collies quite as thoroughly as a full noise low altitude P51 flyover. Just stunning.

Gotta agree with that! A Packard Merlin driving a dirty big Hamilton Standard.... a VERY sweet sound!
