Kayak fishing

I dont have yet one and have just started looking - Im guessing $300 - $550 should see you ok for a good 'un

I'd go chat with a large tackle shop (fish city) and see what they say.

as long as who you speak to knows his stuff then you wil be fine buying allmost anywhere. I got my set including $100 worth of soft baits and some jig head's and a bag for $350 shimano raider extreme 2 piece rod and a slade 4000FB reel with 300 15lb superbraid fireline , and "invisible" fluro carbon trace.

Not the best set up but more than enought for a 20lb snapper , could pull in a average size kingi 20 kgish but would have 2 be care full and play it slowly. Have seen guys pull in bigger fish on lighter set ups than mine. how .. you have to wonder sometime's

the rod and reel was from Hunting and fishing west gate, they do upgrade reel's to for + $50 more for the next one up, Mines the basic set. not bad though I did a heap of re-search before buying and think mines ok, probabally the next reel up has 2 more ball barings would be the go as well my set up was $250 for rod and reel . they are still doing this set at the moment

the like $100 of soft baits , $50 jig heads , trace, clippers ect came in a pack i scored for $99 from Norcross fishing world came in a bag , had a dvd that shows you everything you need to know . really good purchase i worked it out in all it was like $170 worth of gear for $100 so was pretty decent.

Just a bump with a wee tale of woe, and the joy of Kiwi customer service.

In short - there were problems with the Kayak (Mission Catch 390) that I purchased.

1 - It leaked
2 - I had to drill holes in the bottom to add tracking fins

Both far from ideal.

So I called Canoe and Kayak in Mirangi Bay.

Long story short, they replaced my Kayak (immediately and without question) - but I could select what I wanted - they didnt insist that I did a same with same.

They let me take a couple for test rides to see if I liked them better - and when I found one they fitted it out with all the additional bits - making it more expensive than the one I purchased (by quite a bit) - They absorbed the cost (100%) as an apology for the faults (manufacturing) I had with the first kayak.

They also offered to take me out free of charge and give me a couple of hours one on one training etc.

Seriously - It would be the best service I have had in years. So - if anyone is looking for a kayak:

1 - Don't buy the Mission Catch 390 and
2 - Definitely buy from Canoe and Kayak.

LOL - good point.

It leaked BEFORE - I didnt actually get to drill and mount the fins as I thought there was enough water entering the hull as it was and why make it worse.
