    Retro Scooters' incapable mechanics

    It seems that the only reason I ever come on KB is to complain about something. But as a women, I guess its something I’m good at.


    I brought a second hand scooter the other week (mistake #1). The brand name was Motofino, the only people that sell it in NZ are a company called Retro Scooters, located on Newton Street Auckland

    After purchasing the scooter, I got it serviced there (mistake #2). It took them 7 hours to service, which I’m not sure is a bad or good thing. But I got it back, and within the next couple of days it was stalling and spluttering, generally acting like shit.

    So I went back. They mechanic there (if you can call him that) adjusted the idle key. Off I road, the bike road fine for the next 2 days. Then the same problems occurred. I went back to Retro Scooters. They apologised, had it for 3 days, then rung me to say that it was a cracked spark plug causing the problems.

    Of course if that was the problem, I wouldn’t be writing this to complain about them. The other day the scooter broke down permanently, I had to get a trailer to pick it up.

    I guess my concern is, that you pay 100’s of dollars for a service, you expect the bike to run, not stall. Second, they specialise in the maintenance and selling of this bike, but seem inept to actually be able to fix it.

    If it had such a serve problem, you think they would be able to pin point what the hell it is, instead of sending me off on an unreliable, semi dangerous scooter. Especially, considering they have a history of this brand of scooter.

    My advice is to stay away from them. They can’t provide suitable service and knowledge for the vehicles they sell. They left me wanting.

    Ring them up, and speak to Mike Thornton. I believe he is the owner, and a bloody good bloke too.

    Mike Davies I think is the man, and he is a good bloke to deal with.

    Don't waste your time with the Mechanics, speak to the owner and tell him your frustrations, being a reputable businessmen or least you hope so, he should be more than happy to sort out your problems.

    new name brands???

    Although its great to see new names making their stamp on the world today its sad when thing just dont work out as they would all hope. Hell even the common names screw it up. Suzuki, yamaha, kawsaki.... but generally they have (well id like to think so) i better system in place for when shit happens or when the odd person gets a lemon.
    So for me i like to stick with the names i know, and let others chance the ones not known yet. But i do hope this new group does what it can, and they sound like they are making a good go of it. Shame about the mechanic.

    I went there to look at scooters once, they only had Belladonnas. I ended up getting one from a guy who imports them from japan.

    $100s of dollars for a service........sounds like a rip to me
