Well I seen him for the first time in just over a month and he's back to having "just one" here and there. Blames it on his girlfriend because she still smokes and claims he wouldn't be smoking if she didn't have them. She has finally decided that she wants to quit smoking as she would like to start a family and badly wants to be in good health. She rang quitline, patches and gum were discounted for her and she quickly went to work. Sadly shes had a reaction to the patches and can't use them, but that said she has gone from 25 smokes a day down to 10 and she believes having support and understanding has helped her cut back at least that much. She hasn't reached her goal but she is well on her way. There is no point running either of them down over it, just like there is no point running Mark down (its hard not to sometimes).
Amoung the crap insults there has been some useful advice from those who have been there and done it. Ring quitline. Go cold turkey? Or perhaps hypnotherapy. If one fails, don't be afraid to try another. But at the end of the day the most important thing is for you to think about how badly you really want to give up smoking. At the end of the day if you want it enough you will succeed.

    Goodluck.
Spend a week in bed. They'll be at it like rabbits. Best incentive to quit is the sex gets better.

Mate, I gave up cold turkey a month ago after smoking for 20 years. I wanted a new bike so I quit and the extra money will be going into getting my bike quicker.
For years I have tried cutting down, smoking mild and only smoking on social occasions and everytime my mind justifies smoking more.
Eventually I thought to myself, how bad do I want a new bike, and I really want to live longer to ride more roads.
It is hard and you have to beat that voice out of your head that tells you that you need a smoke.

In the words of that shitty ass shoe corp "just do it"

Some people are only alive because it is illegal to shoot them.

It's hard because you have an addiction to beat and most of it is in your head.
Its a little uphill at first but does get easier, good on you for quitting, don't give in to the just one puff.

    Mid 2003 for me,pack a day.

Just take it one day at a time, if you have a litle "slip up" don't give up on the giving up!
It does get easier after the first week.
The thing I found hardest was other smokers! offering me fags! was esp. hard to resist when out drinking, so I became the sober driver for a while, till I was strong enough to resist. Been just over 2 years smoke free.

I gave up about eight years ago .. smoked 30+ a day most days. I made up my mind ... and used patches ... the week after my step father died .. .and I decided to stay quit - everyone around me was fagging up .. but I chose not to .. thank goodness.

It would be so easy to start again ... but I have decided not to ... sometimes it just pays to be stubborn. One thing is though ... for the first two weeks i felt like shit .. coughing up crap and all that .. but once I was clear I have had no problems.

That is so true. Get on top of that and the rest just falls into place.

If ya wanna 'kill' the craving and addiction like fast track. Go on a fast for two or better three days. You will feel like shit. Every pore in your body will be screaming, you will get the shakes on the second day and have a tounge like feel like sandpaper and stink to too boot. But by fasting the body will reject all the crap real fast and I can guarentee that you will feel so like crap a ciggee will be the last thing you want. Coming off the fast milk and soup then just light salads fruit etc. Keep off the tea and coffee, no fizzy drinks and no booze of any kind.

It's important to take regular breaks. Spend 3-4 minutes every few hours relaxing totally and putting your mind into freewheel mode and think of nothing - switch the bastard fully off. It helps you stop feeling like you are going mad.

    Steve
"I am a licenced motorcycle instructor, I agree with dangerousbastard, no point in repeating what he said."
"read what Steve says. He's right."
"What Steve said pretty much summed it up."
"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
    "Wow, Great advise there DB."

It's easy to quit. You only have to take one cigarette out of the equation. The next one.

Once you decide not to have the next cigarette you've broken the chain. Smoking the next cigarette will repair the chain and you will be it's slave again.

Cutting down makes the addiction stronger. Only cutting out that next cigarette really works.

Do you really want to be enslaved for life by a dumb plant?
In space, no one can smell your fart.
