So, while the greeting card industry may have capitalised on the day and had a hand in establishing it in its modern form since the mid nineteenth century, it does have a reasonably weighty history.
I learn something every day.
And, given the above, I think I might have to arrange a little something at short notice.

If I was in a relationship I'd be a bit O_o if my partner got me a present for Valentine's or did something for me. It's not embittered cynicism, but I like to spring surprises and nice stuff on my other half, rather than have a proscribed day for it!

Great night was had.....
Shame about the $45 parking ticket at the viaduct for being 10 mins late back to the car..... Those parking wardens (Wilsons) are not nice on a night like that.
