Oh right thought I would update this old thread.

Turned out the prob was the spark plugs. The centre of them, the electrode, had worn out/down to a rounded shape rather than a nice square shape.

New plugs from Repco which where the cheapest by lots, and had them in the next day rather than a 4 weeks wait from Japan, and the problem was fixed.
