New jacket advice - yes I've used the search button!

Looking at upgrading from my oversized NEO - Imola jacket and have a few questions and thoughts (right or wrong)

I've not got a spare $500 so I'm looking at the Grid Target jacket or maybe some of the Ixon styles.

The Imola has a thick foam padding but I'm thinking a solid armor is better, but am confused here.
Foam = good as impact absorber but shite for skidding down the road on??
Solid = Good for sliding on your bits but just transfers the impact directly to your bones??

I'm thinking that broken bones heal easier than skin grafts..


Then there's length. My poxy Imola (disregard poxy if you're a large person and want to buy it) is long which I thought would be good but it actually seem to work as a wind, and maybe bug scoop. Not really what I want.

Those with shorter jackets, do you have any wind or rain issues with yours?


I'm also after something with a removable liner ( I know I don't want much eh?)


All my looking has been online at this stage, bar the shite pawn shop. Think my time would have been better suited at the porn shop instead!! Tomorrow, oops today, I'm off to any shop that might be open but would really appreciate any advise.

Me too.

The armour in my Spidi textile jacket is hard plastic with expanded foam backing. The best of both worlds? I know this because I just spent an inordinately long time putting the armour back in after washing the suit.

There is also hard armour in the elbows of my leather jacket but I've never actually seen that.

Some expensive suits use soft armour though including BMW, so it isn't just a price thing.

Celtic Leathers, who make leathers for racers in the UK and NZ, use a gell armour too.

Initially I felt more secure in hard armour but I now have gear with both types and it really doesn't bother me which I'm wearing. Maybe you shouldn't get hung up on whether the armour is hard or soft as long as it's there - and you are wearing it.

Yeah ......shameless, but things ya got to do in this slow market eh lol

We use a Hard/soft armour system and we believe its the best, hard outer plastic with a soft foam inside for absorbsion , so you get the hard impact protection without smashing your bones on the inside.
The armour in the backs on any jacket will give you the protection of a cheese sandwich, you need a back protector to look after this area (we do them also KNOX and a cheapy)

All our jackets have a long back so you get good cover in that area, the new Viper is made a little longer then the others also.

All our Jackets come with a removable Thinsulate liner, they are plenty warm enough, but I recomment a Oxford Chill out if a really cold day.

If you have $500 Budget I can get you any of the styles we do (assuming size in stock) will even throw in some of the clearance stock gloves as well to sweeten the deal !! Race TPU or 104 gloves.

Unfortunately 500 isn't the budget, more like 250 but I'm thinking I'll bump up to 300. I've also just bought some Orina Kevlar gloves which I love, lets just hope I don't have to road test anything.

Well my mates at Budget MC Spares have come through again.

Sorry Craig, but I've settled on a Ixon Sismic jacket. Has best of both worlds, IMO, soft interior padding with hard external shell. The back however is just a soft padding. Feels nice, much nicer look than my old Imola (anyone want to buy it?).

I'll be weather testing it this weekend in the rain as I head to stinky ol Dunners via Timmavegas. Should be sweet as it has warm liner/waterproof liner then breathable external - but we'll see how true all of that is soon
