More important thing is that the old guy gets support and gets better and I very much doubt he would want to shoot the guy in the face and surely it is his view to voice not ours..?

I expect bad rep on this one but hey ho
Settle petal. Nobody is really GOING to race out with a gun, it's just your usual knee-jerk vocalisations. However, the perp isn't likely to get any kind of sentence that will make a lick of difference to his attitude/lifestyle etc. If/when he gets banged up he'll just get more street cred and when he gets out in six months he'll be 'da man'. I can relate to and understand why people (myself included) want to shoot these jumped-up dickheads but in reality you can't. But what DO you do? The longer his sentence the more likely it is he'll become institutionalised and gain that afrementioned street cred. Do nothing and he's not going to be 'rehabilitaed' is he? Where's the middle ground between shooting him and putting him on a pedestal?

I doubt any sentence will change him; the damage was done before he got to school age probably. I'd like to know more about his background to try and pinpoint what went wrong where. If we could learn that then we might find a way to prevent it happening in the future.

I feel for the old guy and his ilk, he and his mates fought for our freedom, freedom his attacker has enjoyed up to now but I doubt he's going to lose enough of it to make a difference. It's so, so freakin' sad that somebody who fought for a peaceful life is subjected to such an assault but what do you do? It happens so often too.

...and it's the perfect place to gain that all-important 'street cred'. Nup, what about solitary? A few months in the dark might have an effect.

"Street cred" for beating up an 85 year old?????????? Most unlikely....

....try and pinpoint what went wrong where.

    Being born, at a guess....

    Ya sure have.

So, speaking hyper-pathetically, if you were on the bench and this assailant was brought before you, and found guilty, what would you sentence him to?

Huh? you have me all wrong.... I'm all for forgiving violent offenders, giving them a 500th chance, spending millions upon millions on "rehabilitation" for repeat offenders making our country unsafe....

oh wait, i'm taking the piss, sorry, actually I provide a valid solution to a growing epidemic, unlike Hitler it is not Jews i'm after, it's violent thugs, polluting the streets, killing, assaulting, raping, and none of this is knee jerk, I stand by my long history of comments such as "shoot him in the face".

Eye for an eye....pfffft, nope, i'm actually a believer in a second chance- depending on crime, sometimes people will actually change, if they don't, well you've had your lot i'm afraid, it's about putting down the dog that bites, not releasing it back into the community time and time again, locking him in a cage everytime he bites, and expecting a different outcome.......savvy?

Good on you though, there has to be some tree hugging hippy out there standing up for these monkeys and pointing out their "rights".....

Oh yeah, i'm not the aggressor, i'm the reaction to the aggression, and if my bite is due to being prodded, then you deserved it.

I am jumping the gun a bit.....
but if this country would ever decide to use a henchman again.....
I would happily pay for the privilige....
I'd even pay double for overtime....
