    Over Annie! (1 Feb)

Well here goes, first attempt at properly planning a ride

I have been eager to 'get over' Gentle Annie after stories from Yod and Bonez. Whilst it may be different for a girlie rider I am sure SK1PY will be up to the task of a few k's of gravel. I hear the views are spectacular and a new road is always an adventure :

1st of Feb seems to suit the brave (some say stupid) amongst us. Time to be confirmed but thinking 10ish so not too unsociable but plenty of time

Ashurst,Cheltenham, Pemberton across to Ohingaiti to warm us up and quick refreshment stop in Taihape

Out of Taihape and left towards Moawhango, Kuripapango, Waiware, Sherenden and Omahu.

Recovery refreshments in Napier and then sh2 or 50 home depending on how all feel. Or else let Bonez take us on a tour.

There is 30 odd k's of gravel and good views so this is not a max number of k's per hr or best petrol consumption ride

    Advice, suggestions etc welcome

Took my boy up for work couple of weeks ago, lots of dust , still getting it out of wagon , vehicles coming other way left long dust trails to go thru, but I would have no problem riding the road

The Bandit will do fine - took my K2 over there years ago...

Might be nice if someone can jump in here and update us on the state of the gravel at the mo'. If it's in pretty good nick then maybe the Connie might tag along...

Best advice is take it easy! I binned on that road at about 20km/h and earned a twisted left mirror, faint scratch on the exhaust and almost starting a forest fire with my pipes almost touching off some dry grass

Watch out for deep groves caused by cagers as that's how I got caught out.

Not sure how many years ago for you but I did it last year and there was some construction on the side of the road (widening I think) and the sealed sections I hit were pretty smooth so may be slippery in wet weather, plus they were very narrow so watch out for 4WD cagers.

Me too, they say practice makes perfect, you can clean mine first, then give the beast a good clean as mine was practiced on.

Or get the wife to clean it,afterall they sit on the back(we are good letting em out of the kitchen eh)so that is the cost for that priviledge a nice clean bike.

86 rode it last weekend on the way back from Turangi. Based on his detailed description (he may find time to post it eventually) we may be better going from Hastings to Taihape. I am happy either way, will always do the reverse some other time

Aim for 10 ish at Ashurst, anybody who wants to just do the road stuff and find their way back without the old Hondas welcome too

Decide on direction in the morning?

    Weather packing a sad
May be better over the other side or by 10 am. Not sure the views will be 'stunning' today.
Be nice to know if any better in Napier
Ashurst at 10am whatever the weather, going for a ride
Specially as I bumped a hard night on the town to be bright eyed and bushy-tailed
