    DR650 oil level check?

Sorry guys - this sounds such a dumb question....
I changed the oil on the DR yesterday and measured out exactly 2.3 litres as stated in the manual. When the bike is on the side stand the oil level shows right on full in the sightglass. But I always thought the level had to be checked with the bike being held upright? When i hold the bike upright the level goes above the line in the sightglass.

So whats the answer? Anyone know? I drained all the oil and left it to drio for some time. Also changed the filter. Put in exactly 2.3 litres but it seems overfilled. The manual is unhelpful - it doesnt specify where the bike should be while checking the oil.

trade it on a KLR - they have an automatic oil dispensing system which can take care of things like this.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

Yes I have. But I'll give it a good run tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks. But I quite like my DR. Have tried a KLR650 but didn't feel quite so relaxed on it.

Cold or sitting for more than 15 minutes.
    Bike vertical.

After being run for a few minutes.

After waiting as per the manual.
Not doing it as per the manual will set the level lower that indicated.

Yes Ken definitely check it with bike balanced upright off the side stand.

Manual says 2300ml or 2400ml with oil filter change. Its a while since I last changed the oil on our DR but I do vaguely remember the quantity required was nothing like that stated.

I generally dont worry too much about measuring the whole amount out and just do the final tops ups as required to the line after running the engine for a while. I am sure it is best not to have it overfill so tip a bit out.
    Cheers

    Merv
