Out of curiosity does anyone know the rough weight of a bare frame/swingarm or similar for an FXR? I had a search through here but could only find weights of complete bikes.

Just use the complete weight and subtract the weight of the engine
My neighbours diary says I have boundary issues

I thought the same thing, but then I don't know what the motor weighs.

You got scales? Or can bring one to next meet and use kart scales.

I have a bare frame (not sure about the swingarm, think that might be under the house in Auckland) down here in Morrinsville at the moment. I will see if the olds have the calf scales hooked up and throw it on.

For the record Qkkid was in my bed, not the other way round

Bare frame in road going form (as in no shit cut off it) plus the triple clamps (cause I could not be arsed unbolting them) comes in at 17kg.

I have weighed the swing arm in the past when I was doing comparisons. I think it was about 5kg, or was it 7kg, not light anyway. I have it written down at home in my book and will check on the weekend.

    Cheers pumba,

I only asked as I picked up a cheap RG150 frame yesterday with tank shock swingarm and seat and it seemed realy f#@king heavy, will have to strip all the excess shit off and see how it compares to the fxr.

I have compared the swing arms between the FXR and a RG125. frm memory due the linkages and shit i think that is heavier part. i dont think the will be much in the frames as they are pretty much identical.

I'm looking at improving the handling of the GP125, anyone have any recommendations / experience with rear shocks? Options seem to be buy a newer pair of the same stuff (adjustable spring preload and some adamping) or what?
    Any suggestions welcome!

Edit: Just for clarification, the reason I want to improve the rear suspension is to get rid of chatter, currently cornering goes a bit like...chatter, chatter, crash. Be nice to get rid of the chatter.

That is certainly a good option.

I'd brace up the frame a bit, brace up my swing arm a lot, and put decent shocks on.

When was teh last time the fork oil was changed?

Frame bracing & swingarm are on the list, forks are ok at the moment, it's the rear shocks I'm after.... what do you call decent shocks?

What do I call decent? What do you want to spend? If you're going to brace the swingarm, mount a modern single decent shock to that, and tuck it under the seat.

Don't want the engineering? No problem, buddy up with the motoX boys, and get a set of Showa/Ohlins/anything from VMX.
