It is interesting that the engine runs for long enough for the choke to empty the fuel bowl then stops.

The engine runs perfect with choke open. Idles perfect, will rev up perfect, can rev it to red line. (on stands), I haven't take for ride, so not sure what like under load.

When I close the choke it will run for about 10 seconds at idol, than will start to rev up and run out of fuel than dies,

Just checked, float valve is working perfect.

Its a ex race bike that has been sitting for about 5 years, just getting it going again.

Float valve works when you check but could the floats be hanging up in the float bowl jamming the float needle nearly shut when you put the carb back together?

That is a possibility. I cant see anything it would catch on, , How to check if this?

Bend the needle valve tang so the floats ride closer to the carb body before closing the fuel flow off. To much and the carb will flood. The floats could also be catching on the side of the bowl. You just have to experiment with it a bit.

Thanks for the replys, will have a play.

One more thing. Clutch isn't working. Once motor is started, in neutral output on motor turns (sprocket turns)
I suspect because it has been sitting plates are stuck together? I don't know how to take clutch apart but I will learn.

Hoping to have going for nzsbk round 4

I think you are right about the plates, two solutions, (1) take the clutch cover off, pull the clutch in and then gently prise the plates apart. (2) find somewhere you can ride around like a big car park, a quiet back road, or a race track. Get someone to push start you in gear, pull the clutch in and blip the throttle, sooner or later the plates will free up.

Well I fixed it, thought you might be interested to know what it was. There is a jet sitting up a tube going into the carb, I missed this when I stripped the carb so it didn't get cleaned, jet was blocked

Yes, that's the pilot jet, the most common jet to clog. It controls mixture when the throttle is closed. So idle, and high revs at closed throttle after a straight, so important not to sieze.
Don't you look at my accountant.

Some info that might be helpful to someone. Hyosung GT250R Rearsets bolted straight onto the RG150, so should be a direct bolt onto the FXR. There is heaps of them around to. Good replacement for the flogged out FXR pegs

If you are going to NZSBK rd4 check the supplimentry rules for development class, several bikes from this class were impounded or disqualified for modifications outside of the rules at rd 3

My neighbours diary says I have boundary issues

Thanks, yeah I read them a few times.
Cool about rule 17. That's why I put a 2.5 and 3.0" rims on the bike.
Rearsets can be changed but peg must be in same position. Hyo sets sit about 10mm back, but postion can be changed 3 or 4 different places.
I hope it be ok, so hard to find original rearsets that the gear change is not flogged out and the pegs are not all bent on different angles.

I have my KR aswell but prefer the RG and the KR wont have race tyres on. I don't want to put my brand new slick on a 1.85" rim
