    Fork shortening on Lady P

I'm wanting to get my forks shortened, ie the top stanchions chopped and rethreaded for the caps as they stick up quite far past the top triple clamp due to my radical steering geometry change.

Anyone recommend an engineering shop in Wellington (or further afield if necessary)?

Skunkworks. Bellringer Rd. But i suppose that would be getting help off the evil competition.

Chopping the forks is the easy bit. It's finding a tap and die the same pitch as the fork caps.

You could try asking the guys at Cycleworks in Wingate,Lower Hutt. They get involved in mods to race bikes. Give Damon there a call.

A Hutt workshop. I hear there is a talented engineer there sometimes who needs money for Nationals. He may be able to do it. Let's call him 'Sketchy'.

Okay, I may be able to get hold of this person you call "Sketchy"
If not, I'll try Saxet's option.

    Thanks guys.

    Alternatively

Would it be easier to adopt the Suzuki method that has a push in fork cap, which is retained by a circlip. You'd need to find some caps of course !

    Thinking about it.

Wonder if you could machine, (in my case file or grind) the thread on the cap back so that you could push the cap in and drill the fork above the cap and fit a retainer bolt.

Might be worth a try on an old fork if you got one lying around.

My forks with the spacers are fairly firm now and I wouldn't feel confident that only a pin or 2 are stopping a cap flying back at my helmet while hard braking

A start would be to measure the thread in question. What are you going to do with the dampening rods in the top of forks? Assuming the RGV150 Forks are similar to the RG150 forks.
Cut the springs and keep the same size dampening rod?

Actually funnily enough, the RGV forks come out standard with a spacer about the same length as what I want to trim off. My own spacer and the damper rod (in the bottom) will be unaffected.

    eek

Have you looked at finding another set of forks that are the same diameter and the length you want?
Yes 4 strokes are for homos. Homo-sapiens that is, who have realized bigger is better.
