    A whale in the bay

    I thought I would share.

I live a couple of kms from the beach but am high up (hence the crap driveway). Sitting on my deck the other day enjoying a cold beer something caught my eye. Hmmm WTF was that? Then yep saw it again. Got the binoculars out and there was a whale having a whale of a time jumping out of the water.

Until today I had no idea what I had seen. Its a baby beaked whale according to the harold and Rodney Times.

Now tell me I dont live in the best country in the world when sitting on my deck I can get to see something like that.

Well, in Japan you could get a bite of the action

    That's pretty cool alright!

Although according to the Herald, that kind of whale's meant to be out in the deep ocean. Hope the little guy's going to be ok...

Sadly today the whale beached itself in the storm and died from what I hear.

From what I understand it beached at Stanmore Bay. I was at work abut 2pm and they told me then of the stranding and whether we should send our digger down to help out. It was roving between here and The end of Whale Cove.
