Tyre maker sued alleging defective tyre caused accident

Dunlop is being sued by the widow of a biker who died in an accident, alleging a faulty tyre was to blame. The suit, filed by the widow of Stephen Gageby, claims a defective Dunlop motorcycle tyre led to her husband's death and her serious injuries in a motorcycle crash in 2007, near Butte, Montana.

"Were it not for a defectively manufactured Dunlop motorcycle tire, Stephen Gageby might be alive today, promoting safe and responsible motorcycle riding. But even the safest drivers cannot guard against corporate negligence," said motorcycle accident attorney Billy Edwards.

The tyre in question is a Goodyear Dunlop D402. According to the suit, a defect in the bead seat area of the tyre allowed excessive leakage of air leading to a "sudden and catastrophic deflation".

Hmmm "If defendants argue that the bike was overloaded, plaintiffs will argue that the Gagebys also were not adequately warned about weight limits for the Harley Ultra, according to the suit."

Could be more to the case it would seem.
