GN250 exhaust rivets popping out

Hi there

I have a GN250...now that your done laughing ...

The four rivets that hold the exhaust baffle on the back are popping backwards, I intend to drill them out and re-rivet them, just wanting to know if there is going to be anything complicated behind that baffle, or if it is as I hope, an easy home job.

Picture also attached in case my description is hard to follow

just to clarify, the reason there is a problem with them popping backwards is that the baffle is rattling like mad and making an annoying loud noise.

Can only suggest that like a TL the baffle fits over a flange and like mine did its broken a piece of the flange off causing the movement,easy enough to buildup the flange refit and re-rivet,using big arse rivets.

partner had her rivets fall out of her gn first day she bought it home


so back to the shop and they fixed it for free

Hi. My son had the same problem twice on his GN. The second time he lost the tail plate and had to order a new one. He bolted his last one on and had no problems after that. The tail plate is a part that can be ordered so it must be something that is not uncommon.

just to bring some closure to this thread.

Yes, it eventually fell out, i did find it. And will put it back in. There is nothing complicated about this exercise, A small pipe is on the back of the piece that fell out. 4 rivets and she'll be right back in, however I am reluctant to fix, because it sounds and rides a whole lot better without the baffle. And the best part, its not stupid loud, it just sounds good

He he - my Hornet has TWO mufflers - and Honda had the foresight to high mount them so you don't need to crouch down

The power output of the gn250's is one of suzuki's best kept secrets,there was great panic when they first dyno'd the little beast with shouts of too much power for learners heard.As a quick fix they attempted to strangle the engine output through the exhaust using the troublesome plate rivited to the end,but the engine power proved to much and many a owner has lost this plate with the engine screaming at such high rev's.

It wasn't different enough to warrant pulling your baffle out but it did feel different - the similar baffle on my CBR250RR does make a hell of a difference both noise and speed wise - much quicker engine response, but at the sacrifice of control at the low end.
