    Phillip Island WSBK discussion

Well after the first two qualifying practices, there's a few names I didn't expect to see right at the front.

In QP1 on Firday Jakub Smrz from the Czech republic topped the sheets from Haga and Haslam.

Today, after QP2, Jonny Rea on that horrible CBR at the pointy end from Biaggi on the new Aprillia (wtf??) from Smrz.

Holy shit, role on Superpole and tomorrows races. This is going to be good.

Edit: In regards to the Aussie Superbikes, it bears mentioning, the Robby Bugden despite dominating our own racing for almost three years, is back in seventh place. Two seconds off the pace. Yikes! That's the level of talent over there right now.

I reckon Spies will go close to winning the Championship in his 1st year. The boy's a weapon...I've been saying that for the last couple of years!

Totally agree...I was concerned about the change to pirrelli tyres from the dunlops ntecs [which are universially loved by racers]...but that proved unfounded in a very short time!

Well there ya go. Spies claims the first pole of the season onboard the debutant R1. Biaggi second on the Aprillia, Jonny Rea third while the (mostly) privateer entry of Smrz a phenominal 4th.

I am so looking forward to tomorrow.

Aye. A real talent can swap bikes/tyres and two for four strokes.

When I saw Spies dust Mladin off at Laguna in '07'...I was blown away by his hard charging style. Biggest fuckup Suzuki GP team made since not signing WT or myself was letting him go!

Tell ya what, the new Super Pole format is a really cool too.

Laconi set the fastest ever WSBK lap of PI in the second session with a 1.31.050 yet only qualified eighth with a 1.32.64 in the third session. Nakano qual ninth with a lap 0.8 seconds faster

Robbies not on a factory bike, its fairly standard and only has the basic gear compaired to the factory boys. On top of that he's having bike troubles. 2 seconds behind is pretty amazing considering!
