    ZX6R Rear shock 03-06 wanted

Hi, does anyone have a 2003-2006 ZX6R 636 standard rear shock for sale? I am looking to upgrade the one on my Z1000.

you know the 2005-2006 zx6r shock is only about 332mm length with max preload (it has a top out spring). The '04 z1000 shock is around 336.5mm long (no top out spring). The 03-04 zx6r shock is around 340mm max preload, but it only has a 9.7kg/mm spring compared to the z1000's 10.5kg/mm. The 05-06 zx6r shock also has a 9.7kg/mm spring but it's the same diameter as the z1000's spring so you might be able to swap them depending on the spring and spacer lengths and required preload. But then the damping might be off, and your bike would sit lower in the rear and have slightly slower steering from the increased rake.

I've got an '05 zx6r shock sitting around and an '04 z1000 shock (leaky seal though I think). I don't think I'll be using either, if you want to try the zx6r shock (perhaps with the z1000 spring if it fits?) let me know.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply!

I have been reading on riderforums about the shock swap. I realised the lower fork was diffrent on the 05-06 shock and you either need the 636 lower linkage or to modify the Z1000 one, but didn't realise it was slightly shorter. I would be very keen to come and have a look if nothing else and see if maybe it would work.

Do you think the change in geometry would be noticeable? I'm not Rossi but don't want to mess things up.

Thanks again, I will PM my details.

    Phil
