Seems to me that the brakes work just fine. Is their purpose not to slow or stop the bike? At, or from, any speed? I can understand the effect of an indelicate yank on the lever tho...first car I drove with power-assisted brakes, and discs to boot, (XA Falcon) gave me a fright. At the time, my only experience was with simple drums all round.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Yes...."going too slow for the brakes to work properly"? Is that a euphemism for "braking too hard for the speed she was going"?

I have the feeling that we're on a slippery slope, that we might be in danger of uncovering something best left alone, and the situation could get a little hairy if we keep poking it...

Well then by that rule OWNER doesn't need a stunting cage on his CBR then!

Well surprise surprise... I read the 1st page and thought "hmmm me thinks this thread is gonna deteriorate quickly"...skipped to the last page and see that I was right LOL.

Getting back to the subject raised in the original post.

Hell just harden up! Shit happens! I once braked so hard I landed ON the tank of my Harley and DENTED it! I was walking funny for about a week LOL.

The Buell has a different shaped tank and despite it having excellent brakes I have never repeated the experience.

Oh yeah, should mention that I would never have landed on the tank if I had been riding more defensively...I was following too fast and too close. Entirely my own fault! Hard lesson to learn.

Why should I harden up, I like being a soft girly?

I like you have learnt a very valuable lesson and don't intend to make the same mistake again. Luckily, I have received some good advice and as a result shall be looking at different bikes and riding style in future.

Damn! do you stunt riding, you know, doing wheelies while sitting on the handlebars or something?

I agree with Mom, change your riding position.
