I must confess I avoided fights at all costs. It was a lose lose situation at school back in Glasgow. If you lost the winner would jump on your head until you were unconcious (or worse) and if you won then it was only a matter of time before the loser's mates got you on your own and gave you a good stabbing to remember them by.
Bottles in the face and similar revenge was not unusual either.
I have learnt that if someone picks a fight you either run or you put them down so badly that they can't identify you. I prefer to take the first option.
