    Debit cards?

I have discovered that Visa debit does not exist in this country, and so I can't book things like ferries or rugby match tickets online. Even pizza has eluded me!

Thing is, I'm having real difficulty getting a credit card as my visa is for 2 1/2 years (work to residence) and I'm not a permanent NZ resident. My bank (NBNZ) sniggered and politely declined my request, which was no less than what I expected, but still a bit disappointing.

I'm not looking to make extravagant purchases, I just want something I can book stuff online with and possibly dip into on my big road trip next month. any suggestions on banks that will help, or other options?

Would be nice to have the option to dip into it like a proper credit card, but the loaded seems the best option. I can see why they don't want to give someone on a 2 year visa a credit card, but it's still a pain in the arse!

    Loaded cards are the biz.
I've used prezzy cards in the past to buy things online before I had a credit card, they are basically a one use gift card visa.

Strange. I know international students who have applied for and been given credit cards from ASB.
If it wasn't for a concise set of rules, we might have to resort to common sense!

The visa debit card is a great card, less charges, worked same as EFTPOS, from same account. No need to worry about credit ratings and paying off by a certain date to avoid interest. Was a Aust. Citibank account....My BNZ manager mid last year, agreed that it is a great product and they were thinking about introducing it.

Loadad card is excellent. As you have to have it in credit you cant spend more than you have earnt and if anyone manages to get your details they dont have access to all your money. I just keep a small amount on mine unless I have a large inernet purchase or going on holiday.
