Given whats been going on in my street lately I have emailed the local police to offer to organise a Neighbourhood support in my street.
Has any one else been through this process? How much effort is involved? Is it worth the effort?

I set one up in Tauranga following sone minor incidents in our street. I have also been involved in talking to NHW groups in an earlier role as a Security Advisor.
It needn't be onerous - it just depends on how you want it to be
I delivered a 'flyer' to neighbours in the relevant area inviting them to meet a couple of weeks in the future at our place, and organised the City NHW Co Ord to be there to talk to us (Turned out to be a bit of a yawn). Neighbours who couldn't make it rang (put your phone # and e-mail on the flyer) and gave their details anyway.
Made up a telephone/mob/e-mail list and gave everyone a copy.
I found that the whole street got a whole lot friendlier, people would call me and record rego numbers if anyone visited while I was out etc etc
If there was any "action" eg a car broken into, that neighbour would invariably ring me and I'd put a flyer around - they felt good knowing what was happening.
Another spinoff was if there was a ridiculously inconsiderate party in the street, we would team up to call Noise Control, eg Neighbour A would call Noise Control, then would call Neighbour B, who would also call etc etc - we agreed on this at our meeting. With 5 or 6 calls Noise Control respond better!
We only had about a meeting a year, sometimes just a BBQ, but it really gave a "safety in numbers" feeling.
Good on ya for doing it!![]()
"If you haven't grown up by the time you turn 50, you don't have to!"
Thats way encouraging. Thank you. I am sure 90% of my neighbours will back me if I go down this route.
