Nice to see a thread that doesn't turn into a on KB and ends with a happy outcome. Hope you both go to the run and have a great time, it's for a great cause. I'd certainly be keen if it was closer.

P.S. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to change the thread title to something like 'Support The Nelson Poker Run'....
Agreed. If I could change title. I would! BTW, thanks.

personally I do not like to associate with Gangs, and not going on a ride because it is sponsored by a gang is a valid stand IMO.

I even find some of the clubs a bit tough-guy and gang ish. though I am happy to associate with them provided they don't make a living through crime.

    Baiting people is not wise.

As for the rest of your post, this is what was in the local media ...

I quote from that news artical !

Before the event, there had been calls from the online motorcycle community to boycott it because of the involvement of the Hell's Angels.

Mr McGurk said there was a possibility that this had an effect, as this year there were fewer participants who were not patched gang members

Wonder how long before this thread is found wooooooooooooo spooky !
    Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah ahahaha aaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

I was there this year and last year and I would dispute that.
Without actually counting them I'd say there were a couple of dozen HA patches, two Headhunters and four Red Devils. Around the thirty mark all up and with approximately 250 registered participants, plus hangers-on, it was an easy 300 bods. Last year I think there were only four of five HA patches and because numbers were well up this year I'd say the ratio was about the same in reality.

I really think McGurk has that one wrong.

Don't doubt that at all mate, it's called propaganda !
No way would he admit that there were hundreds of ppl there that had a bloody good time, jappa riders mingling with the Angels, H/hunters all talking shit and slappin one another on the back !
No children being murdered, women being dragged off by the hair and raped

No different than a Kb ralley would be haha ok so it would be slightly different but thats all good !

Oh heavens above i just remembered the race meet i'm attending this weekend is being run by a GANG there could be or worse, bikers
Ya think i should let them win ? bwahahahahahahahaha

    Agreed.
I think if you wish to associate with a gang or hangout in a club you need to be aware of the stigma that is attached in doing so. To disregard it is naive.

I'm sorry, normally i'd leave alone but Stigma ?
Are you saying if someone were to ride with a GANG in a fundraiser like that one, there will be STIGMA = a. a mark of disgrace or infamy; a stain or reproach, as on one's reputation.
Or STIGMA = b. a place or point on the skin that bleeds during certain mental states, as in hysteria.

    Yes, stigma a).
And if you fall off your bike in doing so, then possibly a bit of b) also !

As they say, it "goes with the territory" - fundraiser or not unfortunately.

Gangs are thugs... Not all of them

I would like to point out to some of the naive people on this post, that just because they have patches does it really make them all thugs, they are all normal people who have normal lives & yeah they get into trouble at times but most of the time they are family men & woman, I grew up with a lot of gang presence & there is is stigma saying they all thugs..,.. Really people , what about all the murderers rapists & paedophilles do they get as much flack as patched members....
