Removing Scuff Proof. HELP!

Hi, I am in the process of trying to remove scuff proof off the plastics on my klx ..... The top layer of scuff proof comes off fine.... but the sticky crap underneath stays on the plastics......
Can someone enlighten me what I can use to get the sticky CRAP off???
Would be much appreciated!!!!!!

A little bit of meths on a rag should do the trick. Rub in a circular fashion, rince and repeat!

Not sure if you have all the scuff guard off or not but heating it up usually works. A hairdryer would do the trick.msn-wink:

Heat the scuff guard up BEFORE trying to take it off.
Try heating a small patch of the sticky stuff up with a hairdryer and just rolling it off with your fingers
We use 2k thinners on windows but that wont be too good for the plastics

Simoniz Liquid Diamond car polish (or whatever their latest version of it is now) is great for removing the sticky stuff and I guess any good car polish would be. Rub it on liberally and then wipe off. Probably better than attacking it with anything more vicious and you won't need heat or scrapers so no chance of damaging the plastic panels.

Use a heatgun/hair dryer and heat it up a bit first as you are doing it...

experiment to how much heat you will need to how much of the glue is left behind.... to much heat will melt the plastic...

Remove the glue by getting a rag or paper towels and smother it with meths and saturate the glue in a section at a time... use circular motions as stated

sometimes you may have to use a plastic scraper to scrape the bulk of the glue if there is a good thick layer of it left first... but make sure you put heaps of meths to soften it before you do it...

Thats what I do for removing stubborn glue and I have been in the sign game for longer then I want to remember

Good advice IMO!

I remove the stuff often and aggressively, but I'm painting whatever I remove it from.
There will be nicer, less aggressive methods suitable for plastics I'm sure!

Heat the film up BEFORE trying to remove. Mostly the adhesive will come with it then.
In your case, it would appear to be too late. You've already removed the film and left the glue behind.
You will now have to use some sort of degreaser/solvent. As mentioned by others, eucalyptus oil, desolv-it, meths, turps can all work. Personally, I use Prepsol and mutton cloth. The prepsol soaks into the glue and softens it, the weave of the muttoncloth scours the glue off the plastics. You need to keep turning the cloth to avoid just smearing the glue about. You can also use the likes of a creditcard (not a real one of course!!) to scrape the glue off, in conjunction with the cloth and (product of choice).

Holy shit, almost exactly what I do only I use a bog blade instead of a (sort of) credit card!

I'm a signwriter and I applicate this product onto bikes, cars and trucks.

Meths is crap at moving it. As is most other products.

As you've already pulled yours and left the glue, use white spirits aka kerolite aka shellite. soak a rag, damp down the glue with the rag soaked in kerolite. Then with after about 30 secs use the soaking rag to wipe the glue off.

White spirit wont damage anything else, is aggressive enough to melt the glue unlike meths and evaporates with NO residue what so ever. Its also better then prep sol for wiping down surfaces before applying new scuff and graphics. Prep sol leaves a lite oily film.

To actually remove the scuff properly, heat lightly with a gun, then the trick is to lift an edge and pull it like you were stretching it. Not back over onto itself, but the opposite.

If this line between the asterix and the number symbol was the film... *---#... then you'd lift the edge on the asterix side like so and pull or stretch at a low angel like so *<------# so it gets longer. You'll see it popping off and pulling virtually ALL the glue with it. You'll need a second pair of hands to hold the panel while you stretch the film.
