    Insurance companies have different profile
for person, place, bike, age etc. What's good (and cheap) for one person isn't necessarily good for someone else. Shop around, get a (substantially) lower price and check cust satisfaction for payment of claims.

Quite right, of course and I guess my age, history and bike all counted here, though one would expect it to count with the others' too. Interesting thing was that Tim used Star Ins. and his quote was well under Star's intitial quote. Have heard good things about Star so no problem going with them.

Seems the biker friendly insurers are well known around now.

I have mentioned that Kiwibike seemed good people, so concur that anyone shopping around would do well to compare. One of the reasons for my recommending Tim at JB was because he's trying to promote KB to the company in order to get better deals for members and the more KB'rs he can sign the better the company offers. Bit like along the lines of the Ullyses, (Sp!) club getting a better rate for its members. Why not use the "buying power" of a site such as KB?

State wasn't the best for bikes, even though we have all other insurance with them and have nothing but good to say about the rates and service we've had from them over the years. Their quote was $800 and no roadside assist for bikes, so they miss out this time.

I'm covered by state, what's the benefit of being covered by kiwibike or John Baker?

I gather they're both specialist bike insurance companys, and by the sounds of it they're quite expensive.

See my last post. State were a lot dearer and no roadside assist.

That's all I know of. Never had to use State's vehicle insurance but any house or contents claims we've had over the years were settled quickly and fairly by them. They are a fairly conservative company and I suspect they don't really want to encourage Motorcycle insurance.

Have heard good things from other KB'rs about the other Ins. companies here so we'll see how we go. NAturally I don't want to test any insurance company out...

    Northland bike museum flooded

I have just seen a piece on the midday news about a bike museum that got flooded. Must be up North. Anyone know anything about it?

Heart breaking. Looked like a lot of old but nice bikes in the mud. The couple seemed bloody nice people from England I think. Living here.

Most of the bikes were found in NZ.

Wounder if there is anything we can do to help them out.

There is a bike museum up north! Was planning on visiting it next time up there. I'll try to find it on the net or something. Think it was in a post on KB a while ago, too!

    Cool

Yeah I saw the tail end of that news item on TV1 midday news.

So I didn't catch where it was either.

They are sure to replay the item on the 6pm news tonight...

Or maybe someone can come up with the TVNZ link to watch it again.

Well due to the state of some peoples houses... Cars etc up here due to flooding... You'd hope insurance covers floods... I'm pretty sure they do because they are swarming... Checking out damage done etc etc... Theres a huge mess up here... I know people who have lost every single thing that they own...

It's called Sunbeamland. I posted about it way back when this site had maybe 100 members. And it wasn't insured.
