Proposed Ride Sunday 10 May (Mother's Day)

    Ride Distance Approx 250 km

Depart BP Feilding 10.00 a.m. heading north up Kimbolton Road
    Colyton via Colyton Road
Awahou North via Taionui Road, Valley Road, Pohangina Road and Pohangina Valley East Road
Komako Still on Pohangina Valley East Road
    Apiti via Oroua Valley Road
Kimbolten (Toilet stop) Via Oroua Valley Road, Apiti Road and Rangiwahia Road

Those that need to get home home early can return to Feilding from here making a trip of around about 125km

Rangiwahia Heading back north along Rangiwahia Road (Quite windy in places and some loose chips)
Mangaweka via Ruahine Road. (Bring your camera)

Pit stop / toilet stop at Mangaweka Service Station (DC3 Plane)

    Hunterville Via SH2

Suggest we stop at a Cafe here for lunch. People can then make their own way home via SH2 or back north 5km and over Vinegar Hill. Going back to Feilding via Vinegar Hill brings the ride distance to approximately 250km

If the weather is fine tomorrow Sunday 3 May I will be checking the ride route out. The Pohangina Valley East road is superb for spirited riding but care must be taken on several corners after long straits for loose chips as you won't be able to slow down in time if you are going a bit quick. The road between Kimbolten and Rangiwahia has many tight corners and some loose chips. It's fine to ride on however. Ruahine Road to Managweka has some great scenery so we may want to stop to take photos.

Like other rides the second rider will need to stop at corners so that no one overshoots. All roads on this ride are sealed but if you wrong you could end up on a gravel road.

    Cheers
    Nigel

Checked out the roads yesterday. Everything is looking pretty good. Just a couple of short sections require care:

    1. Valley Road going Colyton. Short piece of resealed road near the summit of the hill. Still some loose chips

    2. Pohangina Valley East Road. By Totara Park the corner just after the park has been resealed. Loose chips.

    3. Rangiwahia Road. About 15 minutes north of Kimbolten the road has been resealed and there are a lot of loose chips. This is one that could catch someone out travelling too quick and not being able to slow down in time. The other ones mentioned shouldn't cause a problem.

    4. The Vinegar Hill road back to Feilding has a few corners with loose chips but that's nothing new!!

I came across about 10 - 12 scooters going the other way near Apiti. Out for a low speed ride I guess

See you all on Sunday, weather permitting.

Yeah I might have to have another talk to Sarge about these. All confused now I've found lots of different models.

Sounds interesting. Apparantly the new Oxfords are quite slimline. I'm getting Kerry to throw something together........
