THE ROUTE FOR SUNDAY'S RIDE
I went out this morning and did the entire route, arriving back home after 5 PM. Here is the route:
Meet in Palmerston North. I will consult with Gary about the time and place but I suggest 10 AM at the start of the Pahiatua Track.
Pahaitua Track - regroup in Pahiatua just before the main street.
Back roads to Alfredton, then Te Ore Ore (bypassing central Masterton).
Wainuioru and around to join the road north of Gladstone.
Gladstone (not the pub) to Longbush to Martinborough.
Lunch in Martinborough.
The Village Cafe - spacious, room for our gear, and a good menu.
North to Ponatahi, brief stops at Stonehenge Aotearoa and The Haunted House, back roads to Masterton.
Tiki Tour through the centre of Masterton and Queen Elizabeth Park.
Back roads to Mauriceville and Eketahuna.
Final regroup at the Tui Cafe, Mangatanoika.
Return to the Manawatu via the gorge or track.

Yes, that is it, basically.
I will post a scanned detailed map later today and will include more road and place names.
But the weather looks GRIM. Latest forecast for tomorrow:
Sleety showers and strong cold southerlies.
The maximum temperature will be 7 degrees, or another forecast puts the max to only 3 degrees. I doubt if many will show up when its so cold - are there any definite starters for tomorrow?
Cold weather is OK with me, even the odd shower, but snow or "sleety showers" is dangerous for cagers and a definite NO for us.
Anyhow, I can tell you that the route is fantastic! We had mostly sunny weather over here yesterday and many times while I did the route I felt like stopping to get pics and videos - the valleys and snowy peaks were magnificent. The cafe in Martinborough is tops, and we can do sneak views of Stonehenge and the nearby Haunted House.
...
Are there any definite starters for tomorrow?
Post here or PM me. Thanks.
If there will only be 3 or 4 of us, it may be better to postpone the ride to next weekend - see forecast here (dry and sunny).
But hey, if we get a group for tomorrow, I will be there with my thermals and a bottle of HTFU pills!![]()

I'm keen if cold. Don't mind if there's a little bit of moisture around but no reason to be silly if it's atrocious. Route 52 can be a little slippery in places in the wet...
The route looks great (if I got it right), takes in a couple of roads I haven't done.
I just spoke with KiwiKat, Gary - at this stage the ride is ON.
At the moment it looks like we have 6 or 7 definite starters for the ride. Nathan from Carterton will join me in Masterton, meeting you at the start of the Pahiatua Track.
We will look at the weather in the Manawatu and Wairarapa tomorrow at 7.30 AM. Some sunshine is forecast for both places, along with a bit of rain. Most of us are OK with cold weather and a bit of rain, but if there are strong winds or if it is bucketing down, we will cancel (postpone) the ride.
I will post a map and further details soon.
Its a ripper of a route so get your thermals and join us!
