I reckon that a punching bag would be much better to try those new gloves of yours out on - they don't bleed and make a mess, nor do they bitch if you hit them too hard.

Mate, i will tell you a few things you cn do at the track as well Boxing is good though.... but you would have to look at doing it properly at a club....

Personally for the best fitness do swimming, im not talking playing in the pool... im talking doing laps, with different styles.... and by laps i mean 30 to 40 laps (of olympic sized pool).... Have you ever done 6 laps of butterfly...??? That gets you fucked quickly....

Swimming is one of the best... It gets you fit, and tones you up, without stressing your joints like running does....

and as a motrcycle racer, i want your girly arms... look at the MotoGP riders.... some of them dont even crack 60kgs...

If any of you's are interested, let me know and we'll see if we can make it a weekly thing.

Just a note though, it's all for good fun and not for serious boxers or fighters. We are only a group little shits after all.
Good way to fall out with your mates,it`ll get competitive and end in tears.I`ve seen arm-wrestling,gambling and "play-fighting" cause serious friction when the adrenaline`s kicked in and suddenly it gets serious.
If you`ve got arms like a girl make the most of your assets, buy a nice bracelet and some nail polish.

The only sensible thing said in this whole thread, why do you think most of the top road racers ride MX bikes - try doing 3 laps of an MX track,if you can still stand you're doing pretty good.MX takes HUGE upper body strength...and an added bonus,it will improve your riding too.

Yes, I do. But then I didn't disagree with this negation.

One lucky or unlucky (depending on perspective) punch, and you're a vegetable. Yes, I know there are injury risks in every sport. But it seems that putting yourself in front of someone and daring them to do you direct harm is just... foolish.

I don't know of anyone in NZ doing Muay Thai that has suffered a serious head injury - I bet a few rugby players have though......

As I understand it there have only been a small number of deaths, mostly in Thailand.

Personally I would rather be in front of an opponent knowing exactly what his intentions are rather than be cut down from the side or behind on a rugby field, or rucked at the bottom of a maul. That IMO is foolish. In Muay Thai and Boxing competition you are also pitted against someone of the same weight so its not like you will be getting clubbed in the head by someone twice your size - that could also be foolish. (Although sparring bigger guys is fun as they are generally a lot slower and easy pickings - just don't stand still for too long)

If that's the case, then he must've meant breast-stroke, not butterfly....
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

    Interesting and well-made points.

    Hmmm...

Any Muay Thai gyms you'd recommend in Auckland?

One other point is that the damage done in Muay Thai is spread generally across the whole body rather than just the head (and to some extent the torso). In fact, your shins often take the most damage, although learning how to check kicks properly is a must and reduces a lot of injury (except for the other guy )

Lee Gar Balmoral I think is the best or one of the better ones.

SMAC (Southern Martial Arts Centre) was/is also pretty good.

Lollo Heimuli (Lee Gar) is a top class trainer, as is Tojo Dixon.

You can train 4 nights a week.

2 months of training 4 nights a week and you will be one fit son of a gun......

    6 months and

In a year you'd probably be competition fighting..........and winning some of them
