Rear tyre, bad wear..

Hi guys..

I got a set of Avon ST's put on the bike some time ago and they have done the job pretty well, but after going for a WOF today it was pointed out to me that there is a very unusual wear pattern on the tyre. there is a part of the tyre where the rubber has worn past the indicators, but there has been no change to the circumference of the tyre.

If the tyre had been worn but locking up the rear wheel it would have a flat spot, where the tyre face was against the road, but this is not there.

Any ideas on what could be causing the unusual wear ?

Could you elaborate on the circumference statement? I fear this occasionally dense individual is missing something here, as all I can picture is a tape meaure being run around the circumference of the tyre???? Something I need to learn?
