    Tax refunds! Do it!

I did mine when I was bored after an ad on the TV reminding me to do it.

All you need is your IRD no and go to www.taxrefunds.co.nz

After 2 days, I had confirmation back, and I have $333 on its way to my bank account for just the last 2 and a half years.

    Its free money, go hard!

Top work there mate! Treating yourself to some new gear?

I was thinking about this.....don't they charge a commission? What happens if you owe 'the man' money? Do they deduct the commission and then deposit the balance into your account?

Interested, a few unexpected dollars would be gold!

A friend of mine recommended this to me also. They take a 12.5% commission, up to a maximum of $500. No refund = no charge.

And if you owe money, they don't pass it on the IRD. So it is a win-win situation.
I got nearly $600.00 back. I would suggest anyone has go at this.

Fuck off. It's your money that the gummint overcharged you for and locked up for however long without paying you interest on it. Free my arse.

Take back what is rightfully yours!

I got a refund last year - all good and that.

But I think it prompted IRD to have another look. Got pinged because my last job didn't tax my final (holiday) pay correctly, so had to pay that back.

The tax system is a somewhat inexact calculation.

Although ours is relatively simple (compared to Australia) it's still easy for mistakes to be made.

I worked in payroll for 9 years and there were hundreds of payroll people that were under / overtaxing or making big mistakes.

My advice. It's certainly worth doing but especially worthwhile if you've ever been paid a bonus or sales commision, had a pay increase during a tax year (April - March), changed jobs during a Tax year, stopped working (and not gone on a benefit) for any period of time or had back pay paid to you.

As MaxCannon said, there is more of a chance of getting a refund if you have had lump sum payment over top of your normal wages.

It should also be noted that it is very easy to do your own tax refund, takes about 20 min's tops to work it out yourself and then you don't submit it unless you are owed tax. You also don't have to pay anyone commision fees.

Got nothing back when I did it but got $1000 back from filing out an IRD form after I was made redundant.

I was telling my son that because he's worked erratically and non-continuously the last few years, he should go to that site and see if he's due a refund.
    The vifferbabe was like this:

    Oops...

Sometimes forget she's a tax manager....

She said she'd do it for no commission.

But (however!) even though I reckon I'd get a refund, it's kinda contingent on digging out all our donations receipts from wherever they're hiding.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Sent mine in last night after reading this Thread. I was always going to do it but I had this strange thought that I had to have all my old end of tax year payslips, wich I did not have so this was stopping me from doing it, any ways I had a look at the site and discoverd that all I had to supply was my IRD number, so I signed up, waiting now to see if I get any cash back.
