I've seen one of them a couple of weeks back on Karo Drive in Wellington. Knew it was one because of the orange flash thingamee on the back. Speaking from experience any government agency purchasing vehicles from a car company doesn't pay pleb on the street price if they purchase then as they are evilly good negotiators. For the most part they lease vehicles though so that they can pay from operational expenses not capital expenses so they lessen their reporting needs to the crown.
FYI for those interested: those crown BMWs didn't cost as much as people think, they were only about 12 grand dearer than the LTD's they replaced so not really as bad as people are winging about. Hey we don't want to look like a banana republic when the foreign fat cats show up do we?

I owned a Morris Minor once - 805cc. Never exceeded the speed limit in that. It only went 50mph. With a tail wind...so there ya go.
HOWSUMEVER. I think I might have flown a little close to the sun yesterday morning when it comes to Previa vans parked on the side of the road...
Was returning from the Sunday Morning Pootle along Kaipaki Road. Nearly home, going pretty easy. Came to a RH corner between two long straights. There was a van parked off the road on my left, at the apex of the corner. Slowed further in case he pulled onto the road, saw he wasn't gonna move and cranked it out of the corner, never giving a thought to possible speed vans. Made it worse by being a gear higher than I thought - went to upshift to 6th and found I was already there...Glanced down further to the speedo ...shit... Even allowing for over reading speedometers, I would have been just a tad over the allowable...
So avoidable. So dumb. And possibly so expensive to boot. I may well have to dust off the "Voluntary Tax" bin, buggrit...
The angle the van was parked on made me think he might have been monitoring both directions. Anyone know if they do that?
Ahh me, the best laid plans etc etc etc....

50mph is roughly 80kph, so ya could have done some really dangerous in yer Morrie, like 80k in a 50!
I rolled one going around the Basin Reserve one night. Tut tut.
I would be very surprised if the police paid anywhere near $62k each. Toyota have huge discounts for fleet buyers - rental car campanies often paying <50% of RRP. My guess would be somewhere between 30 or 40k each.
My guess for why not renewing L300 is crash safety. The L300 is probably a 2 star ANCAP, Previa 5 star. Previa will also come with stability control, side airbags etc, unlike an L300.

See how good the stability control works on this one!
