    A "double duties" scenario

OK, here's a good hypothetical situation I'd like to find myself in soon. And I'm right in a racing discussion frame of mind right now

You're almost ready to casually return to the racing hobby, but your partner has also grown tired of not having a road bike.

You can only afford one decent bike and it's going to have to perform both duties. Daytime commuter, bit of a fun weekend hoon toy, and on/off race bike from time to time. Budget's not massive but you could possible afford a brand new SV650 say (which coincidentaly the missus is very partial to).

    What do you do?

Buy an SV650 and transfer it to and from a pro-twins and road bike?

Grab one of the very low kay Aprillia 550 V-Twin Motards off Tardme?

Find a nice late model SV for the girl and make do with a 2 to 2.5 K, old F3 bike to get your jollies on?

Susan! If you're reading this it's purely hypothetical and for discussion purposes only!

Does she want the bike for weekend rides or commuting?

I'd say if it's a commuter then keep it separate, i.e get her the bike she wants, and make do with what you can get.

If it's just a weekend toy then perhaps try and find a setup protwins bike with road gear that can still be used on the road.

There is already one person racing F3/pro twin on a first gen SV650, think he even races with the number plate still on!

Don't get the Aprilia option unless you have the money to rebuild it frequently.

The last option is the "fairest" IMO.

    Yep!!!

Busy mums need special time out for themselves, doing whatever their passion is, fulfilling their own energy tanks, in order to look after little people's tanks!!

She deserves a decent bike of her own!

LOL. Funnily enough, team Dalton was looking at that exact bike, however half of team Dalton decided he'd continue solo racing and left me hangin.

I like your way of thinking though mate.

Other option of course is I continue crewing for LG, and we just get a nice road bike I can go and burgle track days on.

Bloody Drew......................he did actually tell me he was scared of the 'Mo'

The amount of time those boys spend at the track you'd never even need to buy your own, shit Ed's got a slow old spare one even.

If ya promised not to crash I'd let ya out on the CBarrhhhhh, be interesting to see if it measures up.

Don't need to ride it to see that it obviously measures up mate, the way you peddle the thing it can't be too bad. Even if it is fricken Honda

I'd go option C! If you get a new SV you still got to do suspension, can etc ($$$) to be competitive and I wouldn't touch no spag retard... if you have to get a tard so RMZ, they are heaps of fun!!!
edit: when i say "you" i mean you two!

Thanks but no thanks. Nice bikes, but it's really just a Japanese man wearing an Italian suit. And we'd want something a bit more modern I think.

I guess it would come down to how well you can control your urge to want to win if ya do take it trackside mate, buy an old slug hoping you'll be happy just to be out there, or go for something like this, not the cheapest for a 5 year old bike to commute with but has all the kinks worked out already, and roadworthy to boot.

Tell ya what get a k2 600 or similar use it for track days commuting etc and when yer missus realises she never actually rides it anyway, go the ozzy450 route and deactivate a cylinder - dedicated f3 bike and good resale back to a 600

I think a dirty old 750 SRAD would be the ideal bike for this hyperthetical discussion. Strong as an ox motor, great grin factor and nice and easy to ride on the road.

Too old mate. I'm thinking SV650/GSXR600 might be the action and stay off the race track for a bit longer.
