I have about ten days to make the decision, (boss would like confirmation tomorrow), I have always enjoyed the excitement of new places and jobs etc, and I guess I'm being a bit of a woose not to give him the thumbs up straight away.
Rallies, quiet country roads to cruise with kanny, and new faces and friends might just swing the decision his way.

(The Chiefs don't need my support as much as the Crusaders do anyway)

Do it. You can always move back later if you feel the need. In the meantime, you've lived, worked & played somewhere else.

CHCH reputedly has frosty winters but apart from that it's all good. Reasonably central location for roaming all over the mainland.
    Cheers,
    Colin

And the best option might be to do a 2-3mth trial to see if it works out.
(our Hamilton branch looks shaky, and the boss is consolidating)

So I would like to hear any pros n cons etc. Especially from pig islanders that have been assimilated into the fold that is the mainland. peasea etc.

    Yours please.
After my job dried up in Wellington at the end of '07 I had approaches from Auckland and from Christchurch. Had never been to CHCH although had seen a lot of AKL, so I jumped on a plane for a look. In less than an hour the decision was made.

The cold in winter isn't that bad. Yeah, it snows, sometimes in the depths of winter it can be too cold to ride and honestly enjoy it - not that it can't be done - but I reckon in general the winters are colder in Wellington. Ice and grit on some roads in winter is the real killer but that's only for 3 months or so. A good time to work on your bike.

People are different down here too. In a good way.

    Do it.

Have a look at road map and compare it to the north island

Look at all that riding potential!!! TWISTIES!!!

How many rallies in the north island? compared to how many in the south??!!

The correlation of population to number of road users per stretch of road....

    do you need more reasons??!!

    Cheers for the positive feedback.
A quick trip to Christchurch is the best way to approach it, and since kanny has an adventurous approach to life, then the move will/would be full of excitement.
I'll keep you lot informed, as areas to live in and around Crusaders turf will be one of the things I'll need to sort out.
    Thanks again.

Christchurch does get cold in winter, but it's not as damp and foggy as Hamilton. And you'll be able to afford heating. I couldn't when I lived in Christchurch
People tend to forget that it gets pretty warm there in summer as well. When I left uni and moved to Rotorua, it was November and I just about froze to death when I got here

I miss living in the south island

Christchurch cold? Pfft! Twizel is cold. Christchurch is balmy in winter by comparison. It's all relative I guess.
Nicer people down here. C'mon down. you'll enjoy it.
