Getting license back after injury?

hey guys,

had a nice wee tumble down invercargill last round and dislocated me shoulder. SMCC stole my license and gave it to MNZ as they should.

now i want it back. shoulders sweet just about to head off and get the all clear but do i send the medical clearance from the doctor (i.e. he send it.) or do i just post it up. theres bugger all on getting it back from MNZ on there website and i kinda need my license before the enduro.

ring Bonnie at MNZ, and you can fax you medical clearence in and they send you back the licience,

their is an official medical form, i do not think it is on the website, give them a call tomorrow.

If you had NO head injury? You do NOT need any medicale clearance!

Might want to re-read your rule book Shaun...specifically these ones.

5-8 Any registered competitor who has received hospital treatment shall be required to produce a certificate of clearance before competing in further events. If necessary MNZ may order a competitor to have a further examination, doctor to be nominated by MNZ and fees paid by MNZ.

5-8-1 Any competitor who knowingly competes whilst suffering from an injury or medical condition which may impair control of his/her Motorcycle is liable to exclusion, suspension or disqualification unless a medical certificate, issued by a Doctor qualified in the medical field in which the injury or medical condition falls, certifying that the rider is fit to compete in motorcycle competition is produced.
5-8-2 Any registered competitor who has received hospital treatment shall be required to send to MNZ a certificate of clearance, before being re-issued with his/her log book, before competing in further events. If necessary MNZ may order a competitor to have a further examination, doctor to be nominated by MNZ and fees paid by MNZ. Where a concussion has occurred, an automatic stand down period of 21 days shall apply.
Where a competitor has three concussions in one season, the rider is required to obtain a clearance from a neuro-surgeon or similar medical specialist.
5-8-2a Where injury circumstances occur when a medical clearance certificate is required that competitors log book must be uplifted by the Steward and sent to the MNZ Office along with the Stewards Report.
The logbook will be returned to the competitor once the appropriate clearance is received.
5-8-3 MNZ may require a competitor to have a further examination by a qualified Doctor nominated by MNZ prior to further competition. MNZ will pay for this examination.

What you may like to note here is that this is not restricted to:
1) just head injuries or
2) only injuries received at a race meeting.....

Ie fall down a ladder break a collar bone, you still need to get clearance. An Injury is an injury if it will impact your ability to control a bike....

yea shaun supposedly it was changed about a year ago such that your license gets yanked if you catch the white loud van away from the track. automatic stand down of 21 days for a head injury. rumor has it was because of m/cross girls deciding to ride when they clearly shouldn't have.

Called up today and they said just fax it up and it shouldnt be a prob and they will return the license straight away. yippee.

No sweat!! - is a little gotcha that can catch you out - I had to get a sign off after a hernia op cos a local MNZ senior steward new I'd been under the knife... is a good rule though I think.

He was knocked out in his crash I was told? How did he get clearance to race so quickly then???? Thought it was an automatic 21 days stand down for that, unless a special head clearance check is done?

i am a MNZ steward ao have a bit of knowledge in the area, their is no automatic stand down period for a concussion, (like there is in speedway) however a steward can request a medical clearence, and can ask the st john's at the track for a report on the rider, i have asked riders to be checked on site by medical crews, and stopped them riding when the medics have shown concern against their wishes, you can either write it in the liceince and give it back, or keep the licence and send it in to MNZ, as written in the rule quoted above MNZ can ask for further tests if they want,

I saw Sam go down (from the point where smoke was coming off the front tyre as it was tucking until he came to a stop). I couldn't see him for some of the time once he had stopped, but he got up himself and walked to the ambulance. I heard no reports that he had been knocked out.

Not my place to answer on any actions after that as I wasn't an official at the meeting, nor the MNZ steward.

I'm just quoting the rules that apply here in this instance where a rider's log book has been noted or not returned for medical reasons.
