Thumbs down Finding work In 2009

Well I can tell you it is not easy.

As you can probably guess I have just been released from work, last day this Friday the 20th.

Now considering up until November last year they were screaming for drivers, now its a definite case of no risk taking.

Well I was wondering do any KB'rs know of any one looking for an experianced driver.

    I have classes 1,2,3,4,5,6, D,F

Please PM for contact details or to talk.

What a coincidence, I am in exactly the same boat as you with Friday the 20th being my last day as well (though I'm not a driver). Good luck with the job hunting, I know how difficult the job market is at the moment (last interview I went to they had over 1500 applicants).

Check all the usual sites...Gumtree.co.nz has jobs.

Do you have rooms you can rent out? I rent 2 rooms and it makes a big difference.

Something will turn up and right now a lot of firms are just nervous and like all things it will turn around.

    God Bless

    Hey kasper

Stay positive mate. I am currently under employed, and have been hunting hours for the past 3 months or so. Have to say the opportunities have been few and far between, but, I have noticed in the last couple of weeks that things are starting to pick up a little. Put it out there and something will come along for sure.

I think the thing in this current job market is to be flexible with what you are looking at. Even if you get a job in an industry you are not completely happy with, at least it's a job. Then, when the job situation picks up again, you can look for something more along the lines of what you 'want'.

All the best to those seeking jobs...

Yep. I am also under-employed. My only major on-going contract is for 20 hours a week. Until recently I've had no problem getting bits & pieces for the rest of the time. A couple of months ago the bits & pieces pretty much dried up and I missed out on a couple of contracts I was very confident I was going to get (in both cases they didn't give the contract to someone else - they simply stopped all external contracting).

Yesterday the 20 hours a week on-going contract got cut back to 14 hours. In a few weeks it will be cut again to 7 hours unless something drastic changes between now and then.

The trouble with being self employed is that often you're flying pretty close to the wind anyway. No holiday pay, no sick leave, no redundancy package. When the work dries up, that's it.

Feeling a bit sorry for myself right now, but I am confident, as Mom said, that things will work out. They always do.

Interesting comments klingon, specially regarding the cutbacks and non-letting of contracts. I have also found that people that have been positive and planning to "do something" have for the large part pulled back and adopted a wait and see what is going to happen approach. I have worked like this for years off and on and have never found it so tight. Nice short term, meaty contracts that would ordinarily have a residual work hour value for me are not panning out as I would expect. When my planning calls for 10-12 hours a week residual time and they say no, lets leave it for now I know things are tight. My biggest frustration though has to be the negative thinking that is prevalent out there, the longer people hold off doing something "just in case" things get worse, the worse things are going to get.

Having said that though, there seems to be a bit more on offer at the moment than there has been, so onwards and upwards I say! Best of luck with finding yourself some more hours too kilngon.

I had a contract job for 5 months paying great hourly rate so I saved, rent out 2 rooms and now doing a 12 month fixed term not paying so great an hourly rate but it's a job...eek what I need from savings and still looking.

Main thing is to be happy and do what you can because the positives always outweigh the negative times.
