Addicted trout fishers

Are there any others on here, apart from me. My addiction began on 3rd January 2009 and has got steadily worse to the point I'm now obssessed.

Any Orkers, or Waikatoians, or others, who want to do some day/over-night trips to some awesome fishing grounds?

In the 1.5 hr (from Orks) radius is a vast bunch of easily fished rivers. Some with no bag limits.

2.5 hrs gets us to lakes... like Rotorua and Whakamaru.

I'm very qietly sidling up to the river from heaven, somewhere near Otorohanga....My new friend has yet to take me, but I gather its all five pounds and above, stuff.

All of the above are daily out-and-return from Orks.

4 hrs puts us in the Tongariro. (Fly only)

4.5 hrs puts us in Lake Otamangakau, Rotoaria (and the canal). The small ones go five pounds! Fly, Spin, sinker with pink poppers.

Great accom for this part. $55 per twin. $40 per single. Basic but clean. Five minutes from the lakes.

The ride for this is down through Otorohonga, and that's a piece of road-candy for bikers.:--))

Anyone interested? PM Me. I'm off on Saturday to have a look at the Pokaiwhenua Stream. Hour and a bit from Orks. Unbelievable stream. Teaming with fish. Apparently Mrs Simpson, Red Pheasant are working for floating lines. Wooly buggers for fast sinking lines.

And I have a smoker. :--))

Man I'd be so keen if i wasn't leaving the country.

Really wanted to do some decent fly fishing in some of the lakes/rivers round the Waikato region.

Be sure to post up any pictures of of what you catch!

Nar! Mate. Not into trophy. Just want to eat the little buggers. :--)) Smoked trout is oral heaven.:--))))))))))

Yeah, I've been known to wave the odd dry fly or nymph around on the end of a floating line. While not addicted I did manage to get a couple of hours fishing in on most weekends over summer while living in Twizel for 15 years. Unfortunately since moving to Chch 6 years ago I've not taken the rod from it's bag. Had plans to tackle it again this summer having retired from cricket but seemed to spend all my time doing other stuff. Next season perhaps. The problem is it takes so long to work out the right places to go so if any locals can point me in the right direction that would be great.

The fish pictured are 14lb 6oz and 11lb. Both caught within 10 minutes of my front door and both in the afternoon about 6 years apart.

Skiting apart....I just can't believe you didn't smoke and eat the buggers!

LO SOUNDS LIKE MY ADDICTION TO pig hunting just cant get enough every day im not working im hunting just havent founds a way to mix bike riding with hunting yet enjoy the obesion but do enjoy alot of fishing perks of living on a river backing onto the bush happy camper

havent tried fly fishing yet, though have caught afew in the Hutt River on spinners, must renew my licence.

I was very fortunate to grow up at Rerewhakaaitu, my folks farmed there.
Lake Rerewhakaaitu isn't too bad either, Dave (at least it used to be).
Red bodied Dorothy or Parson's Glory are pretty good flies to use.

I didn't realise how lucky I was as a kid.... our farm was less than 5 miles from Mt Tarawera, good for deer and pig hunting, and duck shooting on the lake in season... the lake was only 200m from our house, fishing after school was a regular pass time. (probably didn't do enough homework, that's why I ended up being an ag pilot!)

It was more so i could see what you were catching. Would be the closer i get to some good trout fishing for a few years.

You're an ag pilot! My God. My hat comes off to you. I've flown with an ag pilot, but once. Given I was not in control...I never want to do it again. You are amazing pilots. Makes my gliding stuff seem pussy.

The hydro lakes on the Waikato river aren't too shabby for Brownies as well, Dave. I've seen some good ones come out of Lake Ohakuri, upstream of the Atiamuri dam

This weekend I'm going to out-and-return to Pokaiwhenua stream, and the Waihou. Then on Sunday, out-and-return, I'm going to try eith the Waimakariri and The mouth of the Pokaiwhenua, and Karapiro.

Just bought a new six-weight, four-piece, and a fast sinking line to work the faster rivers. Man, can that rod ever flick my eight-weight floating line!!!
