Smile Teensy-weensy welding job please! (Auck)

I'm trying to fit a pack rack to my Volty but I just can't get all the bolt holes to line up at the same time! After trying it every which way I have come to the conclusion that something has been bent at some point - dunno if it's my bike or the L-brackets for the rack.

Anyway it looks like the simplest way around it is to cut off the little bolt sleeve from one of the L-brackets and reattach it in the right place, a few mm further down the bracket.

Who can help me with this small task? Obviously I'm prepared to pay you for the job - but it's really not worth spending big bucks on so I hope someone can do it on the cheap for me.

    Thanks!

    New rack is it?

I've had to tweak a couple, to fit new or near new bikes. Bit of a quality issue perhaps.

I'd be happy to tweak yours, but it seems unlikely to be your easiest option. Good luck eh?

If you cannot find anyone on here to do it you could try phoenix enigneering. He is really good, cheap and quick (probably do it there and then).

Thanks LittleJohn... Funny I was just at Cycletreads! If I had read your recommendation before I went, I would have popped in on them. Oh well, it's a lovely day for another little pootle over the bridge...

Chances are its a slight change to the frame thats the cause... I had to make a bracket for my older drum brake GN, but none is needed with the disk brake model. Might be better off just making a small bracket

Thanks Ryan. I called them but they said they wouldn't have time to look at it today so I'll drop in tomorrow on my way to work. I'd better find out exactly where I'm going before I start off in the morning rush hour traffic.

Hmmm... it's possible - but it seems that the bracket will fit on one side of the bike but not on the other. Very strange. Not that it matters - this pack rack will become a permanent fixture on the Volty so it will never have to fit a different bike. Hopefully just a small adjustment needed and I'm sorted!

Thanks, geoff! I'll get in touch if phoenix can't help me tomorrow - I still need to narrow down exactly what needs to be done.

If you head down Barry's Point towards Foodtown, look for a blue/white bike shop on right, they are driveway just past it (opposite the road going down to spectrum). Phoenix is on the left half way down the driveway (some other sign on the wall from old company that had the shop).

It's all very Secret Squirrel, isn't it? I went there this morning before seeing your directions, and eventually found it... despite no signage! You really have to know where you're going! And all the on-line references give the wrong address.

I felt like I should give the guy a secret handshake or something when I eventually found him...

Anyway they couldn't do it today so I'm going back on Thursday morning. Hopefully a quick and easy job.

Update: Phoenix fixed my pack rack for me and did a lovely job. They took it apart, welded it back together in the right place and painted it so it looks good as new.

I would happily recommend them to others - just make sure you know where you're going before you get there!

(Awww means I miss out on Ocean1 tweaking my bits though.)
