    Bloody proud dad

I know Im really biased but I'm really proud of my oldest lad.
It was his 13th birthday on Tuesday so I "dragged him along" to the Taupo trackday I organised.
    He's been riding a KX80 for a few months.
Anyhoo a van pulls up at about 10.00am and in the back is (to Him) a bright shiney RG150.
I told him "someone " had to test ride it in the carpark.
Quick as a flash hes in Billys old leathers and hauled on boots helmet and gloves.
Half an hour up and down and I haul him off the bike and throw a back protector on him.
A very nervous young man sat on the dummy grid.I'm not sure if it was the bike shaking or him. With really clear instructions to FOLLOW ME we headed onto the track. 2 laps later and he was relaxed and comfortable going round and round.
All day session after session he seemed to get smoother and a little more agressive with his cornering. His lines started out a little er unusual but most of that was him doing what I said and following bigger, faster bike lines.
After a bit of a word about turning in a little later he got the idea pretty clearly
I was blown away by his total focus to the job on hand.
One little mistakewas made but not repeated.
Big bikes thundering past at quite literally three times his speed diddn't affect him in the slightest where I've seen grown men quail.
His latest anouncement is he doesn't wanna race MX anymore. Road racing is much better.
Yep the future for kiwi biking looks pretty rosey from this ol blokes point of view.

I need to thank Riffer for getting the lil beast ridable ---Stunning dude.,Then Billy for the leathers,Clivorus for transporting it up. and the KBers at the trackday trusting my judgement that he wouldn't muck it up.
I'm gonna see just how serious he is about this racing bizzo and take it from there.
My gosh one fantastic person has stepped up and offered a sponser deal I'd kill for

Birthday boy looks quite at home at the front of the pack there don't he ?
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

Oh good, so its works okay then?

You could have rung and told me buddy. I've been worried there was something wrong.

Well done William. Makes those hours in the gargre worth the trouble. Sorry I couldn't get that powervalve fixed but looks like he didn't blow the motor up so all good then.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

20/20 in hindsight mate. He was complaining he could "only" get to 110
If I thought he would be that comfortable I woulda sorted it out .

That nearly brought tears to my eyes mate. I wish it was my young fella doing that.

    Nice work, mate.

And now he's proved he can, you'll have to.
Good one, young man, be proud of your achievement. And don't forget to thank your dad for all the opportunities he makes available for you.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Bugger that. He is off working tomorrow for a guy down the road washing cars. He is quite prepared to earn the money himself for stuff like this hence the reason we are prepared to support him.

And with an attitude like this he's not only going to go places, he's going to have people helping him all the way.

Telling us is good - telling him often, that you are proud of him is even better!

    WELL DONE SON
Know how you feel i remember the first time i took my (then12 yr old to a MCC training evening) he had never even sat on a bike........... by the end of the eve he was lapping ruapuna.
After 18 months without a bike (cos we were poor!) he was lucky enough for a sponser to by him an RG150. His enthuiasm had only got stronger (he was pit crew for me) He started back racing in Oct last year. Has had a 7th at club level and 13th at ruapuna nats.
keep up the good work guys its an awsesome opportunity for the youngsters.
I Have told my boy that when he can lap on my 675 quicker than me he can have it..................... hes gonna start riding it later this year.
