Greta Valley Rally (4-5 April 2009)

That's a shame, it was a great wee rally. I had a ball, nice to meet some new people. Thanks for making me feel so welcome. I'll be back next year for the 10 year anniversary.

Good wee rally.... got there sat afternoon... nothing really organised but good location and pub

it was good to catch up with a few others and even met up with quite a few locals that I knew as it use to be my local pub 16 odd years ago

Had fun. Bit more quiet than last year but in actual fact it was nice to just sit out with friends without all the noise and busy bodies and chat away.

Good to catch up with all those in PMC, and thanks for the congrads on the little rider coming!

I dont get off on over charged prices, especially when there is a charity involved which could reep those benefits.

Have to agree a bit really... good food from the BBQ profits going to the local voluntary fire brigade but that was it from what I could see apart from the pub... or maybe at old garage but did not venture that far...

There was also mentioned about discount drinks at sometime for people with the armband as I entered the grounds but never saw any of that...

If I had of known it was just going to be a basic pub night to meet up with people and pay full on bar prices that I could really of done any old weekend then I probability would not of gone...

It's not about the $$$ but it would most likely of been cheaper overall for me to ride down to middle march for the night and done the same thing, drunk and eaten as much then a night at greta valley pub which is all the weekend was...

As far as I understood it, all funds raised, minus expenses were to go to the Cholmondeley Childrens Home, a great charity for disadvantaged kids! And there was the volenteer Fire Brigade with thier food stall raising funds for themselves, a must in a rural area like that.

I am annoyed the publican didnt see past his nose, and drop the bar prices as advertised. All he did was offer a jug of Matsons brew, what ever its called (their brand brew) and a free full 7, plus 2 bottles of some weird bourbon for $10, which is a standard bar special anyway. The food prices in the cafe were their standard everyday prices.
If it wasnt for the rally, the publican would have never had that many people visiting in one go. He would have done a roaring trade. Its sad really.
Lots of people were talking about it, and didnt bring their own takeaways because of the advertisement. It was expensive. We blew $200 for the night! We brought takeaways over the bar cause it worked out cheaper than the bar prices for a single serve.
That was the only bummer for me and many, otherwise it was a good rally with great people. And thats the main thing.
Though it was strange not to see a tatt or titty show.

The Sundown Rally was never designed to be a "full on, typical rally" type rally. It was designed to be a relaxing weekend away to see in the end of daylight savings & the main rally season, where people spend time relaxing, catching up with friends & at a venue where there were good facilities available. It has always been run in conjunction with the Tavern & the Motor Camp.

We have never held tit or tats competitions.

There was an organized ride & games such as: horizontal bungee.. iron guts eating/drinking comp.. helmet toss & the games vary from year to year.

The Plains Motorcycle Club have been supporting the Cholmondeley Children's Home for the past 20 years.. through this rally & through the Cholmly Run coming up in April.

The Volunteer Fire Brigade do their sausage sizzle stall each year, & the PMC provide an awesome large cooked breakfast for $10, both Sat & Sun mornings. The rest of the food available, is bought at the Tavern.

Fri night there was a power cut for several hours.. so the PMC cranked up the bbq & provided the large breakfast meal for the people who had been caught out with the power cut & the Tavern not being able to supply food Fri night

Free tea/coffee are provide throughout the whole weekend.

BYO IS allowed at the Sundown, unlike a lot of other rallies!! it is just not to be consumed in the bar/restaurant areas. But is allowed on the rally site. It is peoples choice to spend their time in the tavern, rather than at the bonfires round the rally site itself. So the weekend cannot be described as a "Night at the Greta Valley Pub.. that was your own choice."

It has been noted re: bar prices & this is being looked into.

I prefer NOT to BYO my on piss and thats my choice... even tho it is not allowed at most rallies a lot still BYO... and it also takes up room on the bike... hence I prefer to buy on site

I also would of preferred the profits for what I drunk to go to a charity or organization and not the publican as many others said as well... and with the pub the only local place to buy piss from it was all into his pockets...

The live band was also pub based or was the dude banging away on the drums the organized band??? (very enjoyable to watch him )
The games as you have said and the raffles were based and sold at the pub and the other food other then the BBQ was there as well...

So if you wanted most things on offer it was really a pub based rally hence a night at the Greta Valley Pub....

I spent some time in the pub as I was also catching up with some of the locals that I have known for many years.... I also spent time talking shit and listing to the guy at the bottom of the hill on the drums around the drum and bathtub fires as well...

It would be good if they come to the party and gave some of there proffits for the night to your club to go towards the charity


I did enjoy myself... never said I did not... but the main thing that was a piss off was some of the prices that were charged and the lack of reduced prices at the bar and the organization that was reaping the rewards for everyone being there was not the charity or a deserving local organization but the local pub...

it was right beside the main rd.... just to the left of the pub

AT the 'Off the Rails' on the same weekend.

The Greta prices should have been close to that surely??
