    Honda CBR400rr Race Bike

    SOLD
My trusty mule sadly needs a new home as I have purchased a 600. This is a race-bike only. It cannot easily be returned to the road. Currently, the tail section and the dry weather wheels are at Crazefox's getting a tidy up so it will be spick and span for the new owner.
This bike has been a great introduction to road racing over the past 2 years. In my hands it has managed to get into 1:20sec laps at manfield, and last weekend it finished 2nd in F3 at the Cliffhanger Hillclimb. The photo's below are from the Cliffhanger.
My preference is to sell it as a package with: spare rims with Metzeler wets that will be good for at least one more year racing (no discs on the front). I have been offered $500 for the rear rim alone as they are rare as hen's teeth. Front and rear race stands. The front stand is a steering stem one which means you can remove the forks while using it, if desired. Spare frame. Spare swingarm. 2 standard shocks. Spare, standard exhaust headers. Spare coils. Spare forks. There is also a workshop manual that has been invaluable.
During the last Actrix Winter Series, I thought I had blown the bottom end and managed to get a new second hand engine that turns out to be a good one. The engine that I thought was blown, turned out to have a disintegrated clutch which damaged the oil pump drive system. This is easily fixed as I have all the necessary parts from a dismantled 3rd engine (which will also go to the purchaser), apart from gaskets. This means that a spare engine is only several hours labour and the cost of gaskets away. The head for this engine has been sent away to be ported as we speak.
The current dry tyres are top spec Pirelli Super Corsa Pros. They have at least 2 more race meetings or track days in them. It has braided front brake hoses. The bleed nipple on one of the calipers will need replacing at the next brake bleed as some numpty has had to use vice grips to bleed them. It has a dyno-jet kit fitted by the previous owner, Micron exhaust can and K & N filter. It also runs a CBR600 shock (circa unknown). Sprockets and o-ring drive chain were replaced 3 race meetings ago and there is a spare front and rear sprocket (new) for different ratios at different tracks. The fairings and wheels are freshly painted. They have been repaired at various stages but the bike looks mint.
I have maintained this bike meticulously with oil changes after every second day of use, filter changed every 2nd oil change. Other fluids changed at least 6 monthly. The purchaser will be able to race it the day they buy it. I was planning to campaign it again myself for another season until opportunity knocked. I might even fill it with nice fresh Q8Oil for you. The current engine and the spare to be put together have both had the valve clearances checked and adjusted recently.
Realistically, it would take a rider much better than myself to have this bike running at the front of F3, but it is very competitive with the other 400's out there. I am somewhere between 80-90kg and it handles like a dream for me.
I am not in a hurry to sell this so I thought I would put it on here to gauge interest before giveng Tardme a lunge. Please feel free to ask questions or come and have a look if you are local.

Good luck with the sale, its a great bike that one and I have to admit that I dont think I can rely on my RG for the whole season so I am starting to think of going straight to clubmans or post classics, is it eligible for posties?

Cheers Str8. The Posties question is a tricky one. I have been told by someone who "knows", that the NC29 was available in Japan in 1989. This would make it eligible for pre89 post classic junior according to the present rules, which state that if a bike was "manufactured" in 1989 it is eligible. I checked this with the NZPCRA peeps and the answer I got was that it's basically a grey area. The NC23 was last manufactured in 1988/89 and the NC29 is a new model run and designated as a 1990 model. I was told that the class is self policing and that it was up to me to provide evidence that it was "available" in 1989. They don't like these tricky decisions but those are the rules.
I have tried to get info from Honda Japan via website with no response. I also posted on the Greybike site in the UK to get info but there was no clear answer there either. So I figured I would enter and keep trying to get the info just in case. As long as I wasn't keeping anyone off the podium at the Actrix Series it wasn't really an issue.

Cheers MT. Funnily enough the NZPCA guy specifically said that they don't accept dates from the manufacture of parts. Still, I have asked them if they can lead me to any sources of info.

Forgot to add a couple of things. It has NGK iridium plugs fitted and the revcounter is partly held on by a cable-tie after the mounting bracket broke. It is still mounted very securely and has never had problems at scrutineering time.

They're gay then. The list at the top of the page tells you when a specific model was manufactured, ie CBR400RRK NC23 1989 Japanese

Ah, I see what you mean. It isn't that straightforward. If the bike/model was put on the market and able to be purchased Jan 1990, odds are it was manufactured in 1989. The info I have is that it was released as a 1990 model at some flash bike show in Japan during the last half of 1989. Apparently some famous throttle jockey rode it onto stage to much Japanese applause. If I can actually find evidence of this, it is totally legit in pre89. The rules state that it must be "manufactured" during the cut off date (1989) or be identical to a model manufactured during the cut off date. It's very much a technicality, and the kind of thing that gives class organisors big headaches. Like I said, there have been no complaints and I have discussed it with other racers in the class. I'm not sure how much close scrutiny the class could bear really.

It has crash-bungs too. With a spare should it, heaven forbid, ever be necessary.

I also have a set of tyre warmers that I can sell to the purchaser for $200. They are the "Diamond" brand and have operated without problem for the last 18 months.
